So much to love about The Blind Boys of Alabama. Iāve seen them live at the Chicago Old Town School of Folk Music. They also tour every Christmas playing, of-course, Christmas music. See them while you still can!
Happy morning music.
A Chicago jazz guitarist. You can find him about town including the California Clipper.
And this just started playing, a 1955 recording (the jacket art screams 1950s). The definitive performance, even in light of the other dozens of recordings/interpretations of this work. (Fritz Reiner who, together with the violinist Joseph Szigeti, persuaded conductor Serge Koussevitsky to commission Bartok to write the Concerto for Orchestra).
I wish the performances in which I have been involved began to approach this high standard.
Yazz Ahmed āLa Saboteuseā . . . a beautiful sounding CD.
A great deal of wonderful playing on natural trumpets, superb singers. Gorgeous.

Now Disc II
This is my favorite performance of the Requiem, exquisite.
Havenāt been into the big city for a while. Went to a couple of our favorite haunts last night with my beautiful wife. A dive cocktail bar on 31st Street, a mile or so West from White Sox Park, and to a north side hipster bar my son-in-law owns called Tapster. Itās a clever concept where you use a pre-purchase card and select from dozens of beers and cocktails. Pouring your own and being charged by the ounce. Typical pours are 4 ounces and you can sample many beverages: which of-course I did.
Bottom line, Iām moving slow this morning and gong to my comfort music. I love the variety of a well organized compilation.
Need to work out and shovel the drive way for the 10th time this weekā¦winter is getting old and I canāt get off the couch.
Currently listening to Symphony No. 31 in D major, K. 297/300a, the Paris Symphony (including the two different second movements). Mozartās original second movement was criticized and, as his 22 year-old self was seeking employment via this symphony, he accordingly wrote an entirely new second movement. While we have both, we ironically do not know which of the two was the original.
I am separately amused by all of the Mannheim rockets in the first movement.
Last listen before leaving to record a concert this evening (Rachmaninoff 2 and a few other pieces).
A CD I bought off of one of Lonsonās Posts. Nice mello Jazz. Pretty complex stuff. Really good allmusic review. The recording is nice and dynamic too.
A CD from my distant past. Really enjoy this. I would never call this an audiophile record but love it anyway. The third song is called Tanga. Donāt know anything about it other than wow! Iāve forgotten how much I like it. Just a killer rhythm.
Found an NPR article on this CD. Some may find it interesting:
Last one for the week. The US country world had mastered big stereo sound way before the Brits. Imagine early Beatles in big wide, echo drenched stereo with the vocals dead centered. Better??
