Music from the era of Cervantes’ Don Quixote, much of it directly related to the novel, interspersed with readings in Spanish from the novel itself (beautifully read recitado in Spanish).
Creatively and sumptuously packaged, replete with a full-sized book, which includes essays and the complete texts in seven languages - each of which begins with a gorgeous full-color reproduction of the frontispiece from the first edition of the novel in that language. Magical performances, exemplary sound. The album won a number of best of the year awards in Europe.
Streaming unfortunately only captures part of the experience of good physical media.
Thanks Elk for posting the numerous Jordi Savall discs! I have quite a few of the Alia Vox discs and really enjoy them, but never get around to posting them here.
Carmen McRae “Second to None” Mainstream Records/Solid Records CD. Not sure Ms. McRae was bold and vain enough to claim she was “second to none” but she was a singer with few equals in my opinion.
I’ll always keep coming back to this one. It has it all. . . great music, great sound, a vibe that ensnares and for me a nostalgia born of being played off and on all my adult life.
Picked this up at a the counter of Starbucks about 10 years ago. A really good Reggae compilation. Haven’t listened in a while. The DR numbers are crap (6, 7, 8) but it does sound good. Not as good as Arkology (Lee Scratch Perry) but good. BTW, where in the world is good organic music still happening? New Orleans for sure, Austin to some extent… Where else? Time to rock steady…
Such a groovy record. 24/96 FLAC With a DR of 12: turn it up. Had to double check but he was born in Chicago. Tragically killed himself. Second saddest thing a human being can do. Chicago Tribune writer, this past Christmas season, wrote a long article about how Danny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” is the greatest Christmas song ever. Written by a South Side Chicago female US Post Office worker, if I remember correctly.
Edit: one of my favorite parts of this record is the crowd. I hear hundreds of black female voices singing in a perfect gospel pitch. It’s really a joy.
Rebirth Brass Band, Feel Like Funkin it Up, Street Mix is the greatest example of a live, modern NOLA brass band ever recorded. In my not so humble opinion.
Lead me to search for it on Spotify. Listened to the whole album twice last night from beginning to end. This is an album I need to own so a search for it found a copy in Poland (where the principal composer lives). $50. Ordered. It’s on its way.
I’m sure I’ve posted this before. Amazing Grace will show off your system and is just a great song. Right to the sweet spot of my musical soul!
I Googled Amazing Grace and watched a Youtube version - loved it!
Was amused though by one of the responses: “I’m an atheist, but they got me closer to the suprime being than anybody else…”. LOL my sentiments exactly.
Amsco15, I love that Blind Boys of Alabama album too.
Also, if we were not allowed to post albums more than once, I am not sure what I would do. I M sure you have noticed that I tend to get on kicks and run songs, albums and bands into the round.
