It’s my birthday. Going for a favorite this morning. Always thought this record was universally loved, my daughter heard this 100 times growing up but she doesn’t remember. I had a copy sent to her husband and they were playing it in their car making fun of this record and me. Hu! Always thought it was super hip to know this record. Clearly my super hip days are way behind me!
JOHN BUTCHER soprano & tenor saxophones

This is the first M.A Recordings disc I’ve purchased. Such incredible texture…you can practically “taste” the instruments. Fun music, full of energy! Certainly won’t be my last M.A purchase…
MA recordings always possess delicious sound. Todd Garfinkle does a wonderful job, using just two microphones. He uses omni mics which capture the sound in every direction, thus mandating an excellent acoustical space and careful placement.
I have Lonson to thanks for this set. Disc 7.
Amsco15, A baby and a birthday! That’s better than a puppy. JASON
Amsco15, IMO this is the only “country” album that is in the same league as Honky Tonk Heroes.
Hard to argue! Not too many records period that are better then those two.
Listening to WCLV listener supported classical radio from Lorain, Ohio. Great station that often comes in very well out here, just over 60 miles away. . . today is not coming in as well as some days but some nice sounding Mendelssohn coming through…
The 1st rap band that I liked (loved). The funny thing is my wife went to Vanderbilt, and she told me these guys played Vanderbilt’s Rites of Spring free concert. Culture clash (?).
I’ve said this before here. I really like compilations. I like playlists too (I know, the horror). This one and the Ken Burns sets get played when I want varied Jazz. Don’t know how you can go wrong with either set.
I’m so into Soul Jazz at the moment. I can’t get enough. I heard Ode To Billy Joe on WWOZ (NOLA radio) and bought it in 30 seconds. Such groovey music. I love this sub-genre and the way it sounds on my stereo. I have a big soundstaging system that leans heavy to the warm side and this music just works. DRs in the 15s BTW.
I know Lonson has this set. I’m just listen to George Lewis. Life affirming music!
As the night goes on, I usually move to single songs. I have a list of something like 1500 songs that I shuffle on a regular basis. The list includes songs that come though my life that make the cut for some reason.
JRiver lets you add songs through JRemote to any pre-defined playlist. If I lost the playlist tomorrow, I would start remaking it. It would never be the same (that would be okay with me) though. I look at the list as a snap shot of my musical life. Random selections but not really.
At any rate, the songs from this album always get selected when I see them as I scan the big (and getting bigger) playlist. Such killer stuff and so well recorded.
Last one for the week. Wow, what a week! I’m blessed.
It’s always fun to share and see all the posts here. Some sincere and great music fans on this site. I enjoy all the perspectives. See y’all next weekend.
Yes, I have that set. I have the Poncho Sanchez cd too!
