Thanks for the tip on the St. Paul Meadows video, which is not the easiest to find on TIDAL. Here is the URL:

Listening to Concierto de Aranjuez: 2nd movement

Staying in the pocket. One of at least a dozen New Orleans compilations I own. Opens with Potato Head Blues. You can’t help but feel the joy!

Wow, I would love to do that! Next year.

I think, after all these years, I’m finally becoming a Brucknerian. This recording makes a very strong case for this being Bruckner’s greatest symphony:

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 5 in B flat major

The recording location could not be more appropriate.

This guy rules, my favorite!

Get the LP if you can, it sounds better than the hires, is mastered differently in tonality, too, but both are a must buy for the music.

This 1969 Frank Zappa-produced double album is described on Wikipedia as ā€œone of the most challenging recordings in the 20th century musical canonā€ and ā€œone of the greatest albums of all time.ā€ I think it takes at least a few listens to appreciate its uniqueness and the genius behind it. I hear something new every time I spin it. This is avant-garde experimental art rock and it is definitely NOT background music!

Joe’s Garage is another Frank Zappa work than requires attentiveness to the production.

I bought the album in 1969 in nearly new condition from an acquaintance who absolutely hated it. I haven’t really warmed to it since then, but consider the purchase price well worth it for the bragging rights to owning one of the world’s most (in)famous albums!

I cannot imagine how iconoclastic Trout Mask Replica must have sounded when it came out in 1969. People who listened to it for the first time while under the influence of hallucinogenics may have been traumatized for life! Recently, I acquired the Third Man Records reissue on ā€œheavyweight 180-gram fruitcake fish-scale colored vinyl,ā€ although I haven’t opened it, yet.

I’m still traumatized and I didn’t hear it until 20 years after it’s release.
