What Classical are you spinning?

I’ve been playing this repeatedly of late. Reed quintet arrangements (with some brass) of Rameau’s harpsichord compositions. A most pleasant variation on the usual.

Can’t say I was aware of this Danish composer, but Presto had this hi-res download on sale for less than $9.00, so I thought I’d give it a shot. Very nice - dynamic and melodic. It’s holding my interest, and the performance is great. Recording is terrific, too.

Mid-18th Century French chamber music, excellently made and performed though the recording allows a bit too much reverb in the low end for my tastes.

I particularly liked the concerto for viola d’amore, two oboes, two horns, and bassoon – an unusual combination and very nicely played.

I’ve only listened to the orchestral versions so far, not the piano versions, but definitely worth checking out if the four last songs are in your musical universe. . . .

An old warhorse that stills sounds good to these ears.

Caught this one on the Pearl Acoustics (Harley Lovegrove) YouTube channel. It’s a special recording with pinpoint imaging. It got me all excited about string concertos.

More mid-18th Century music by lesser known composers in this new release from Audax which is absolutely excellent in all respects - -

One of my most beloved recordings which has been a part of my collection since near the beginning of the CD era (1984).
