What Classical are you spinning?

Love Piazzola’s mixing of Vivaldi themes into tango…

First listen now… So far, pretty good performance and recording. Chorus and soloists sound good. Will take a second listen to get it’s measure.

My son was performing Carmina Burana last weekend with Michael Tilson Thomas. He said the house was packed (unlike many other times). Always a crowd fave.

It is popular.

I find I enjoy performing it no more than once every ten years.

I have to agree with you. I find it over rated. If it didn’t have the racy stuff I wonder of it would’ve just been forgotten

Ah, I think you’re both too hard on this composition. But, I’ve never had to perform it and suffer through rehearsals with it. I just get to enjoy the various final performances. And, the recordings/performances are all different.

So far on first listen to this one, I am very positively struck by the clarity of soloists and chorus in this recording. Every word is clearly, cleanly enunciated. Not always the case by a long shot. And, boy, does the orchestra have fun with things they can crash together.

While I like the Orff creation, I still miss hearing the “original” manuscript text performances by the Clemencic Consort on Harmonia Mundi. I’ve never replaced my four volume vinyl set and would love to do so with a digital release.

Such nice performances and recording!

It is exhausting.

Ah, perspectives do vary, do they not?

Which is exhausting? The embarrassment of riches in the number of recordings?

The Orff, the piece itself.

What a voice! Always loved this guy. (I know that art songs aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.)
