What External Power Supply are you using with the Matrix Audio SPDIF 3 DDC

I have the Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC and just purchased the Aurender N200 music server. I’m about to in the near future purchase the Matrix Audio X-SPDIF 3 USB digital audio interface to take advantage of I2S Instead of using a USB cable. So what External Power Supply are you using with the Matrix Audio SPDIF 3 DDC?

Paul

With all the tariffs in place plus the current sale price this might be your best option.

Thanks as always Jack. I’ll definitely look into iFi Power Elite.

This:

A nice Farad.

I got lucky. I’m just running on USB Power from my MacMIni into my v2 of the Matrix

V3 requires 12 volts.

I will say, I used many different power supplies with my V2. But just powering it off the USB input from whatever source sounds just fine. As a true believer of the Slippery Slope, it was fun trying them all out. The general consensus was Farad was Tip Top, with 6 options added of course. I never went there. Too much. But when I got the V3 I had a Farad on hand. I suppose I could power it down and see what USB power from my PC sounds like. Nah.

I am impressed with both the V2 and the V3. They come in handy with Apple gear. A Matrix is possibly the most universally approved device here.

The Farad looks interesting. A bit setback that you have to pay a VAT when ordering on their website.

Has anyone tried the KECES P6 Ultra Low Noise Regulated Linear Power Supply? I especially like the dual outputs.

Alex Sound Tech is a US Plixir dealer – so no tariff there. I’ve been a big fan of them. Still expensive, but good stuff. I use a 5v Elite BDC on my Jcat USB XE Evo card, and a 12v Elite BDC mkII on network equipment.

I’ve never gotten to compare them to a Farad, but I have tried Ifi Elite / iPower X, HDPlex, and Ferrum.

I have a used Matrix X-SPDIF 2 and a 9v Power Supply that came with a modified DS Sr. DAC I purchased from a fellow forum member.

See pictures below.

I don’t use USB in my system so this bundle is currently just gathering dust.

Can save you some money if you are interested.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the offer but I would rather have the Matrix X-SPDIF 3.

Cheers.

Hi,

I tried the Keces P6 and P8. Both are fine. The P6 is cooler and more detailed, the P8 is warmer and more musical.

what are the differences between the MK2 and MK3? please

Yikes! I own and use both, but I have no idea what changed other than power requirements. I’d assume other things were upgraded but I have no idea what myself. Somebody had a V3 for sale here. As a fan of the V2 I thought I’d give it a try. I am not certain I hear a difference, but I have my V3 running 24/7/365, as I did with my V2. I ran the V2 at 9 volts which many thought would shorten its lifespan. No problems with mine. I always thought 9 volts sounded better than 7 volts.

I’m now strongly considering the KTE SU-2 : Kitsune Tuned Edition – DSD1024 USB Digital Interface Femto second clock Interface. It will mate well with ny Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC.

Ime, DDC’s function as a band-aid. I used to use a singxer su-6, powered by a ferrum hypsos to feed my spring 3. Add in Concentus i2s, power cable, Mundorf SGW DC cable…. It all got expensive very fast. It also sounded very good, but it was a lot of spaghetti. I ended up selling that stuff and putting that money/focus into source upgrades, which gave a better sq ROI (for me).

It’s also worth noting that all the singxer DDCs are pretty old now by digital standards. I like their products a lot, but they could stand to release an updated version that’s more competitive with the current market.

Good to know…thanks! The search continues.

Has anyone have any experience with the Holo Audio RED Network Streamer & DDC?

FWIW, I bought one and traded it in to PSA for an AirLens, because:

  1. In my system and to my ears, it did not consistently outperform the Bridge II Ethernet Bridge card in my PSA DirectStream Sr. DAC; and
  2. The AirLens sounded better than the HoloAudio, Red.

That said, I very much enjoyed using the Red and found it to be good performer.

YMMV.
