What is a good high-quality streamer to purchase and connect to my BHK preamplifier?

Hi all -

I finally want to enter the world of streaming music I currently have a subscription to Tidal.

What is a good high-quality streamer to purchase and connect to my BHK preamplifier

It was suggested to me by a dealer to purchase an Aurender A200

thanks in advance…

Do you plan to use the streamer’s internal DAC or hook it to and use an external DAC? If it’s external DAC, which model?

i plan on using the streamers internal DAC and hooking it directly to my BHK preamp. Same as I am using my CD players internal DAC

Ok thanks that will help with answers on which streamers people will recommend. I use an Eversolo DMP-A6 digital coax out to a PS Audio DSD Mk2, so I don’t use the streamer’s internal DAC. Thanks and good lucl=k!

Depending on cost/performance, an Eversolo DMP-A6 or A10 would work. I have an A6 in my 2nd system, but the A10, and I have not heard the A10 myself, is getting favorable reviews over the A6.

A10 is the one I want to recommend to my son-in-law since I gave him a $500 power cord a while ago, but he does not want to upgrade to a decent amp yet. I think the amp they have now is cheaper than the power cord.

Too funny

Do you have a budget in mind?

Well the Aurender A200 is about $7,000.00 which i was listening to at the audio store.

I don’t want to purchase something that will sound worse than my cd’s (mark levinson 5101) or not take full advantage of my BHK preamp and BHK 300 monoblocks

But I’ll be the first to admit, I know nothing about streamers

All the Lumin streamers are great! Rock solid stability and updated super fast: ex. first to support Spotify streaming. Works great with Roon and Upnp/DLNA software (JRiver, Audirvana, JPlay, etc.). I’ve tried several streamers, none I’ve tried are even close.

O.K. so I’ve owned BHK Pre; BHK 300’s and DS MkII.

Now I have an Aurender AP20 with which I’m very happy. However, knowing what I know now, I’d have gone for the Aurender A1 15th Anniversary Streamer; DAC & Pre and kept my BHK 300’s.

My advice to you’d be to do that and sell the BHK Pre and whatever DAC you’ve got - wonderful as they may be. I’m biased though …

Also recommend the Lumin streamers. Their software support is outstanding. The T3X would meet your needs of a streamer/DAC and budget. Newer model released late Dec 2024. Good reviews. For now I run a Lumin U2 mini (streamer only) into the DSD MKII. Always rock solid, no glitches unlike other brands.

As a previous Lumin U2 owner, I can highly recommend this brand. Their app. is great to use and there is no subscription fee. If you use Roon they are Roon ready as well.

If your budget is around 7k, maybe consider a used DSD MKII and an Air Lens. Considering they were developed to work in conjunction with the BHK components it would be a perfect match. And prob cost around 4k.

Another place to look might be Cambridge CXN 100, streamer dac combo, that’s highly regarded and pretty affordable. They have their own app that you can integrate tidal or Qobuz into. Or stream directly to it with Tidal Connect.

I love my Innuos Zen Mk3 but have to say, the streamer in my PMG 512 DAC is its equal without a doubt (esp now that it works with Qobuz). Not sure your DAC needs, but worth considering the new PMG 512 DAC if you want a great streamer and think of the money you’ll save! ;).

You could also buy a used Zen Mk3 (now a legacy product) and am sure achieve sonicvana.

Why, do you know someone who has one to sell? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

 am seriously considering that, yes… but logistics an issue from my location…. so still enjoying the Zen Mk3 and have to say, their interface (the Sense App) has grown on me…
