what would be an alternative to my SGCD, taking into consideration I need a pre as well. A good USB is essential or ideally take a i2S connection from my Matrix Audio SPDIF.
Grimm MU2 is nice to posess. Preamp. Streamer, DAC. All in one little box that needs one power cable, one Ethernet cable, and a couple of cables to a amp or amps. It also quelles the desire to think about audio gear changes and purchases. Focus on music and forget all sorts of bother. I love mine. Stepped up from a Grimm MU1. Neither needs or supports USB.
Just to clarify, @peterthebutcher , USB is not supported for output on the Grimm MU2. However, there is a USB input port for a device like an SSD that can hold your music files. It can’t be used for backup or signal out.
I agree with @aangen . It is a remarkable piece of gear. I’m delighted with mine, and I got rid of countless little boxes, power supplies, and cables, along with any desire to upgrade.
I should have stated that, thanks Rob!
Right!
For now, count yourself lucky my dear friend!
We all know what hobby we have.
Some of us need to keep rabbits to remind themselves.
I am looking at a similar upgrade path - the new Aiurender A1000 has the rights specs but too early for reviews yet. US price looks reasonable given the name and reputation.
