What's the deal with album art on the DirectStream?

I’ve tried with 2 different SD Cards, one is the 4Gb one PSAudio sent with the unit, and the other is a 32Gb one with faster read/write speeds.
Formatted as Fat32 on my Mac, but neither do anything for displaying AlbumArt.
All my devices are on the same network, static IP’s assigned, and no firewalls in between.

Can PSAudio add a feature to the successor of WinDom to check the SDCard (Presence, ready to write AlbumArt,…) and even to format the SDCard?

Just reflashed my DAC with the latest WinDom release, but no change.

Roon or mControl both have the same issue. Tried Tidal, Qobuz and local files.

I FOUND THE ANSWER!

While reading a thread on the Roon forums about some people having issues flashing the SD Card for the SOtM-200, someone had gotten the suggestion to try a specific tool to format the SD Card first, and then flash the firmware on it…

So what if the issue is not with the card, with WinDom, but with the way the SD Card is formatted?

It takes forever to format the card, but I just tested it in my DirectStream DAC, and boom  Artwork started appearing!

The tool is created by the SD Card Association, AKA, the guys who defined the SD Card Standard.

So PS Audio support, take note.

Use the FULL format, not the quick one.

SD Card Formatter (MacOS)

SD Card Formatter (Windows)

Very nice! I was just about to experiment with this - that is quite an interesting find.

I’ll keep that in mind for anybody else having this issue.

Enjoy!

I’ve played a few dozens songs today, both through Roon and mControl, and AA display is hit and miss, as someone else posted earlier.
So, communication works, the SD Card works (I’m using a 32Gb SDHC), but Windom can’t render all of the AA graphics… Hopefully you can improve that for the successor to Windom!

I reformatted the 4Gb SDHC Card I got with my DS DAC from PSAudio.

Using mControl:
Tidal: +/- 15 seconds delay
Qobuz: +/- 10sec for normal tracks, 18-25sec for Hi-Res tracks

Using Roon:
Qobuz: +/- 15sec
Tidal: Fails, actually showed HALF of the previous song’s AA when I forwarded to the 2nd song (see picture), and then showed the 3rd song’s AA in about 10sec when I forwarded to that, 4th song also under 10sec…
Song 5 was a Master’s (MQA) song, no artwork.
Local files: MQA file, no artwork. FLAC file works in under 10sec.

So, in short, it seems the caching function in Windom isn’t set up properly, and the application that tunnels the stream to the DAC (mControl or Roon in my case) makes a big difference.

I hope you guys can reproduce this in lab, and come up with a plan to fix it in the future
