Will the DS MKII ever see more development? Is this something Ted could do on his own as paid updates?

I did not hear “integrated” at all. I heard the DAC and Preamp combined. I interpreted this as together, not integrated. Am I missing the point?

I think it is that the PMG DAC contains a streamer.

Certainly some do, as already stated.

There are different perspectives however.

Wait, I’m confused.
Some of you had agreements with PSA that they not develop any new equipment within XX years of you buying any of theirs? And further more, they couldn’t do so without your permission. And finally, you had veto rights about their staffing decisions.

Uhh yeah. What’s yer point?

I think some of the posts here are extremely childish. Nobody said the existing gear you have is now junk with no value and no support. I saw the new gear PS Audio will soon be offering and it all looks like a major step forward. All this “but what about me!” stuff is self-centered in a very unattractive way.

So yes, I think it is fair to belittle those with imaginary concerns that may be baseless. You can always choose to mute me if it offends you. A lot of these posts offended me.

Nothing of the sort, of course. PSA can do whatever they want.

However, I think that they could have handled the DAC situation much better. The BHK preamp was pulled from the market sometime ago, which strongly suggested that there was a new one in development. If I had purchased a Mk 2 two or three months ago, I would not be a happy camper.

As others have suggested above, there are a number of ways that PSA could preserve goodwill with existing DAC customers, such as providing two more firmware upgrades (even if users had to contribute financially to that by paying for the upgrades).

I agree with the suggestion that a few more updates for the MK2 be provided over the next year or so. As for the timing of a new product, I can’t get on board with that argument.

Is it known why Ted is no longer with PS ?

Ted is an independent contractor.

Whether they are working on any projects together, or not, is speculation on our part.

Ted was always an outside contractor for PS Audio. He was never “with” PS Audio as an employee. It is not known that he is no longer working with PS Audio as an outside contractor. What is known is he was not part of the development of the new DAC.

I nearly worship Ted. I know he and Paul are very close. I would advise against jumping to the conclusion that he is done and will never be used in the future by PS Audio.

I have some of the same concerns @alexreusch does with the non upgradable combined with the fact its a streamer. not so much the DAC side, but the streamer side. Owning a Rose I know where the bugs live.. That would be my biggest concern. But not that I expected the MKII to live forever, but I was hoping more than 2 years. That is pretty short when the whole idea was longevity due to programmability.

Now that being said, I had always wondered if Ted walked away what would happen with the unit, guess we now know. Also I will say when Paul describes the technology it seems he took the best of what What Ted came up with (DSD upsampleing/conversion - move the noise out way far, air lens between the DAC and DSD conversion etc) and came up with a more standard off the shelf approach that from what I have seen posted it quite better sounding. If the streamer can hold up without firmware changes to keep up, its a winner.

But I want my MKI → MKII “like” buyback upgrade path. I would pre order this second. I still have cash left over from the last one. used some to buy a P15.

Thanks…I was aware of Ted’s status with PS…was simply curious after reading Paul’s post yesterday that he would encourage Ted to work on further DS2 upgrades…I am a happy DS2 owner, and while I’m disappointed in no more upgrades, I have no regrets in my purchase…

I would not assume there will be no more upgrades.

Just curious sorting it out, as Paul said yesterday there would be no more upgrades … though someone mentioned Ted possibly doing such independently…

Was his comment referring to the new Streamer/Dac which will most likely not have upgrades, or did he say the MKII will no longer get upgrades?

Paul was asked if this all meant that the DS2 would be discontinued and that there would be no further updates for it and Paul said yes, that’s what it means

He said elsewhere the new streamer dac would not have upgrades

I assumed – and it is an assumption, quite possibly wrong – that Paul meant that the new DAC would not get sound quality updates like the Mk 1 and 2 did, but that it would be possible to issue updates to maintain functionality. For instance, let’s say Tidal something to their Connect app that made it no longer work with the new PSA streamer; PSA would issue a firmware upgrade to fix this. I recall seeing a USB port labeled firmware on the back of the new DAC. It would be good to clarify this.
