Will US tariffs effect Canada price for PS Audio goods?

If Canada retaliates which they might if this crap keeps escalating. I have not seen electronics on any list yet between our two countries.

Even though I am in the US, I decided to pull the trigger on my FR5s just in case these kinds of electronics became collateral damage…

I purchased my new Abyss 1266 headphone earpads in a hurry with absolutely no regrets. The new pads much improve the sound of the headphones.

No, US tariffs will not have any effect on the Canadian price for PS Audio goods. It’s the US importer who bears the cost of US tariffs. If the US importer turns around and passes on the cost of the tariff it paid to the US consumer, then it is the US consumer who ultimately bears the cost of the US tariff.

If Canada responds to the US tariffs by imposing Canadian tariffs on US electronics, then it is the same scenario as above, except that it is the Canadian importer and Canadian consumders who bear the cost of the Canadian tariff.

Tariffs are akin to a tax on the importer / consumer in the country that is imposing the tariff.

When you find an importer that is willing to take a 25% or more hit, then let us know. The majority of this trade war will be on the consumer. Maybe 5% will be taken up by the sellers and importers, but on many things margins are thin. Some things maybe margin will allow some wiggle room. But in ALLcases the consumer always bears the brunt of the punishment.

To paraphrase an old adage, these tariffs are akin to asking American consumers to drink poison in the hope that the target country will feel the pain.

Apparently all audio gear and cables are tariffed from Canada to US and from US to Canada. So far the rate is 25% but I don’t know if that changes after today or not. It’s a good thing my system is complete. I was considering RAL umbilical cables for my Pass XP-32 but that may be off the table for now.

I try to stay away from politics, but I’m very happy that I bought my Stellar Strata mk2 back in January and that the collectors edition of the Audiophiles Guide that I ordered currently is on it’s way to Holland

My advise to all, Buy used until this crap settles down hopefully. My fear is it wont, but used market is what it is no taxing. Unless you use ebay and they collect it for the gov.

But even the used market is in play, in a way. If the prices of new audio goods goes up, it’s likely the prices on the used market will also go up. Not fair, I’ll grant you, but it’s likely to happen.

Considering the stock market’s recent reaction to the tariffs my thought is the audio market will soften for new and used components. Regardless, I am set.

Yeah the used market has dropped quite a bit since covid days of things selling fast. Takes good prices or something rare and desirable.
