You don't need as much power as you think or are told you need

“Modest amounts of negative feedback are balanced in counterpoint to small
amount of positive current feedback, creating an equilibrium where the output
impedance approaches zero, improving transient and frequency response”
A statement from the manual of the FirstWatt F7 power amp that i’m using tonight with my Wilson Sabrina X speakers.(87 dB and 4 ohms)
This little 20 watt into 8 and 30 into 4 ohms (Class A) amp is just amazing. When I listen to it, I really don’t miss my 500 watt amp.
Right now, this characterful little thing sounds glorious. (75 dB average)
An example where generalities are meaningless.

Not in the same class, but I’ve experienced similar contentment listening to my modest 20/40 wpc Schiit Aegir through Spatial Audio M4 Sapphires. The mood and music have a lot to do with it.

I’ll repeat it once again, synergy plays a large part in aural satisfaction.

The Pass XA25 is a do-it-all-well simple amp. I think they sound great and can drive so many different loads well too. It’s still one of the hardest to beat Pass Labs amps.

Sounds like parenting advice all children wish they experienced or something one of these progressive District Attorneys received resulting in influx of transient frequent crime.

But it may work for music just don’t think it works everywhere in life.

I connected my backup amp into the system today, with 45 watts per channel, and satisfying.

My modest and unassuming amplifier is rated at 230 wpc into 8 ohms. That will have to do.

Don’t tell me that we’ll all end up listening to Supertramp with a Bose radio while sipping hot black coffee (made with an expensive 500W machine) please!

Having an XA-25, I couldn’t agree more, especially with the right speakers. It is an over achiever.

I could use a cup at the moment!

I feel kinda like a drug dealer: I gave my XA25 to my nephew, along with a cd player, a jillion cds and some cables. He’s over the moon. I can see his addiction growing. He just told me he wants to go to Axpona net year.
hoowaahaahaa.

If ever there was an amp with a gargantuan power supply, it’s yours.

Yes. I’m running an amp with about 6 watts of 300B power into 92db multi-driver speakers and have the volume about one-third up and loving the sound. Don’t need a more powerful amplifier at all, especially if it doesn’t sound this good.

Now all he needs is a pair of speakers, Ha!
Your jazz CDs , real treasures there.
Speaking of giving, I just gifted a bunch of jazz LPs to my physical therapist. Turns out she is just getting in to jazz.

He bought LS50 Metas. What terrific sound from little boxes!

Had 'em, and now they are at Al’s summer home. Fun little speakers and a nice improvement over the LS50s.

My first pair of amps (yes, monoblock since day one) have beautiful 300B tubes in them, and I cannot remember what they were. I got rid of them when I found out how expensive to re-tube them. My next Krell had 20 times more power but no magic.

I have been looking for that sweet midrange in more powerful amps to this day.

There are some very good sounding 300B tubes not prohibitively expensive (well lets say less than 400 a pair) these days, and they have longevity. I’m listening to a pair of Black Treasure 300B-Z (no longer made, but still “findable” new) that cost about 300 and are the best I have yet heard, and I’ve heard tubes costing four times as much. It’s all about the full complement of course–driver, rectifier, input, and in the case of my amp voltage regulation tubes all are important.

I’ve done the opposite–the Decware SEWE300B is the LAST amp I’ve bought. It’s likely going to be the last amp I buy. I have more than enough power for my speakers.
