True, but no assurance of the ultimate resolution or best integration. I hear the difference using Tidal Connect over the BlueSound Tidal
I can’t speak to Tidal, but certainly my DAC display of the file resolution matches what Qobuz says it should be. Roon also tells me precisely what’s going on and it too matches.
Good to know, so I was misinformed by what I read on the web and the Qobuz rep as well. The DAC I am using is embedded in my Hegel integrated amplifier and does not provide any indication of the digital resolution.
I was just thinking the other day that that display is probably kind of useless… but I don’t know, maybe not?
Which model do you have? I have been considering them with a few other brands for a system consolidation in my office.
I just may try the 3 month QoBuzz free trial offered at Axpona by their rep knowing that Hi-rez is available.
I usually turn off displays, meters, etc. If they are on I tend to pay little attention to them. This is coming from someone who has one of these as well, in a BDI cabinet I should add.
Den system:
BlueSound Node 2i into Hegel 120 feeding Aerial 5T supplemented by a pair of REL 5Ti. The Hegel is nice and compact and just enough power for the Aerials, an excellent match. Purchased the system from F1 Audio/Audio Experience in Vernon Hills, who at one time offered Rockport and now proudly features the famed Giya Spirit Slayers the Estelon Forza’s, with Krell or D’Agostino amplification.
The Hegel 120 is rather compact which is one reason I purchased it, the second was the system was immediately available. In the running was a Simaudio Neo 340i driving Vandersteen VLR CT with REL 5Ti subs with AQ Robinhood wires. This was December 2019 and the wait on the Simaudio/Vandersteen was 6 months MOL. Now, it would be 9+ months.
I love it. My first real stereo was a pioneer Sx-1050 receiver with hpm-100 speakers and a pl-510 turntable. Bought at camp butler (marine base near Kadena AFB) on Okinawa. I loved that system. Eventually gave my dad the receiver, my father in-law the speakers and an associate at work the turntable (he still has it). They lasted, and provided enjoyment for decades. Thanks for posting!
Can I ask what the differences in sound are between your 2 systems?
I assume you enjoy different qualities with both systems?
That Luxman is beautiful. So are the Yamaha 2200 and 3200 amps.
Roon made all that so easy. Good grief.
Glad I missed out on the fun.
Roon is kind and gentle unless you want to try something with a little more edge to it. It will gladly comply.
@minnesotafats quick question. Was there any duty surcharge buying from Canada to the States? And tx.
Paul
I don’t think so…unless the seller covered those costs and I didn’t know about them.
Certainly, but I do have more than 2 systems, so I’m not sure which comparison you prefer.
I have an SET based system, a more traditional tube analog oriented system, a digital streaming oriented system utilizing an integrated amplifier, and a “convenience” system with an integrated amplifier. Then I have the museum, old pieces that are stored as I never took the time to sell them off as I upgraded.
Agree on the Yamaha look as well. I used to rebuild the Yamaha Natural series receivers and integrated amplifiers. The last rebuild was a Yamaha CA-2010, an example of one is below.
I had a Yamaha CA-1000 integrated amp many years ago. The Yamaha look always makes me think ‘clean’. That was a good-sounding amp.
Yep. Pushes my aesthetics buttons, even though (I assume) most moderately priced, modern kit probably outperforms Yamaha and Pioneer of this vintage.
Wouldn’t take much, but that’s not the market. I have had individuals fighting over who got there first on rebuilt Yamaha integrated amps. It is a retro market to be sure. Yamaha CA-1010 driving Polk 10’s or 7’s, ADS 710’s or 810’s or KEF 103.2/103/3. Sweet and enjoyable but not to today’s high end standard.
I set my one daughter up with a Yamaha CR-810, KEF 102’s and Philips GA-312. She and her friends think it is way cool spinning vinyl on it. Consider it a retro lifestyle system.
Must be all the knobs and switches, because the Sansui and Carver stuff of a certain period always appealed to me, along with the old Craftsmen stuff.
I traded one of the latter years and years ago to partially finance my current speakers - one of the few pieces of kit I wish I still owned (even though, comparatively speaking, it was probably “noisy” as all get out).
Cheers.
