Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

I agree, and a little adjustment will result in changes in soundstage and focus easily too.

Thanks guys, I was thinking to be the only symmetry obsessed person in the world!

Even when adjusting the volume I only use even numbers, fearing that odd ones could lead to imbalance. The human mind!

Personally being indivisible I prefer Prime #'s.

Multiples of 6 (dB) for me, but my main volume is usually an actual analogue pot - so i can obsess about angles too

Luca, now we are different. Lately my new speakers seem to prefer odd numbers on the pre. For MK2 I set at 70 that’s still an even number.

My No. 523 preamp, when connected, goes up and down in increments of one tenth.
30.0 to 30.1 to 30.2 to 30.3.
To get from 30 to around 38 or 40 takes some time.
The BHK Pre is so much easier to change volume level, both up and down.

I use -22 or -25 on my Pre depending on the recording or source, most of the time, and the DS Sr. Is pretty much always set at 92.

Does that make me a subversive?

I am joining the Black Box Brigade. A used one should arrive from TMR later this week (H/T @Gareth). Price was $1299 and they have another one for sale as well…

Those can’t really work, can they?

Oh wait, I have two of them. I like them!

Not an upgrade, per se, but I pulled a CD Player from the closet, I used to use it primarily for DVD, and installed the OPPO mods linear power supply and I2S out when I had my DS Jr a few years back

I found that I miss spinning the shinny, little discs. Doesn’t come close to the performance of streaming or local files, but it’s fun, think I may need to get serious with seeking out a new transport to even the playing field a bit

Also just put in a pair of RAL umbilicals for my DAC, so, I’ll keep an ear on them as they burn in, Brad says 250 hrs

Best,
-JP

Finally got my latest upgrade installed. Iconoclast UPOCC Gen2 XLRs courtesy of straightwire between my Holo Audio Spring 3 DAC and Serene Pre. So far I like what I’m hearing.

Well, there is a blue light on the tube area on one of my M1200’s with the back power switch on and the front power switch off. Will be powered down and disconnected for a few days to see if it resets itself. Otherwise will send it in for a reportedly easy repair.

In the meantime, I now have to suffer listening to music on my FR20’s driven by my 25-year old Conrad Johnson tube pre and power amps, with a smile on my face.

It looks brand new!

All visible imperfections were from when I sent that amp in to be checked out after a fuse blew. The amp was ok, except for the blown fuse, and I had CJ upgrade the caps to teflon.

You are not suffering in my experience!

I remember I had the same issue, when I owned them. Did you notice also a different relay “click” sound when you switch the M1200 off?
