Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

I am going to get quotes on dropping the floor of the living room so it is the same level as the kitchen and dining areas. I am afraid it may be a huge job with some complications but I hopey fears are unwarranted.

My latest upgrade has been using Shuguang Black Treasure 300B-Z tubes in my amp. These are the fourth brand/style of 300B tubes I’ve used and a clear winner. No longer made, the top of the line tested/screened ones are now about a third of the price they used to be when found. I don’t know how extensive their “longevity” is so I bought two additional backup pairs so that I probably won’t be without them for some time.

Out of curiosity, I looked them up and found a review by one of my favorite review sources, “6 Moons”.
They really like them–even over the Western Electrics.

They are very nice tubes. They have pretty much ended my search. I haven’t heard the Western Electrics. I have heard the much-lauded Takatsukis, and I prefer these. I should be good for some time to come, maybe the rest of my time.

I love the amp so much, I know it will be in the system long enough to warrant the backups.

I have them in my headphone amp. Very nice.

I would like to try the Takatsukis given the raves.

It sounds even better than my idea! Your room is already wonderful as it is, though.

Is the floor in the foreground over a basement or crawlspace? Or on a concrete slab? I see a HVAC outlet or return just to the right of the step up to the elevated area. Could be duct work and/or electrical under that platform. Could be a real problem if there is a concrete slab under there. Good luck with the process, looks like the end result will be much better!

The latest addition. Yes, am crazy. Am happy with the BHK pre & M1200’s, and definitely keeping 'em, but also like solid state gear. Picked this up from TMR. The deal was too good to pass up. Not the same level as Gryphon & Vitus (and some others). I have magic with speaker setup with the PSA gear, but now have to adjust speaker setup all over again to go with this amp.

Sometimes it’s great to shake things up and go for a different sound. It is a hobby after all. Of course, the easiest way is to do it without the necessity of changing out the speaker position and room setup.

I almost grabbed that
you robbed me! I was looking at a 302. Gone same day. My attention turned to that amp as I had a 585 at one time that I really liked. Poof, gone. Enjoy!

It has a serious set of handles!

Those handles are nice to have. Supposedly “only” 70 pounds, but seems heavier.

My significant other is an exercise physiologist. She does individual lessons to wealthy lady’s who want to keep mobile and active
Has a couple of NBA players as clients also.

Above a basement that is unfinished with the ability to lower the ductwork. The lower floor will also be less bouncy because it would sit directly on the joists the sit on the concrete walls in the basement.
