Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

Thanks Donald. I also looked further and the one you got seems to be their premium model and therefore the one to get!! I’m interested… there’s a Black Friday sale on tomorrow.

For the grounding cable, are you attaching to the chassis ground of the MU2 with spade connection, or are you signal grounding the MU2 with an RCA connection?
Interesting result!

I’m using spade and it fits outside of RCA input without getting loose, but I plan to get another box with a RCA cable.

Ok - So this is being used as a Signal Ground.
Thanks!

My last two upgrades went to my wife the MB450 E class convertible a few weeks ago and a registered QTR Horse this week for her riding pleasure. I still have enough socked away for some awesome system upgrades, but have been a bit too busy getting daily doses of medical treatment. I Hopefully there is some stereo upgrade light for me at the end of this long dark tunnel of treatments. But right now I must focus on the spouse who is with me every step of my daily health journey. I figure by then, I will have a new lease on life and you all will have upgrade path sorted for me.

It seems life isn’t a box of chocolates all the time still manages to pour salt in one’s wounds when a coworker took one of my business trips originally scheduled for me and didn’t make it back, massive heart failure. It’s taking two weeks for his family to get his body back from Schaumburg, IL. I looked up his ME report in Cook County seems he passed in a hotel room across from one I last stayed in that same Hotel about a year ago.

Painful story. :frowning:

Sorry to hear that. It’s a story that leaves one in doubt about hitting “like”.

Yes it leaves one with both it could’ve been me and guilt. Plus I have been left dealing with the family and coworkers while my boss was on a Japan vacation. About 12 years back he had worked directly for me so losing a longtime friend to boot.

Yes its a Journey. BTW your advice to @tony22 about the Mercedes seats is spot on. Plus he could get a Burmester sound system to boot.

Nice car and beautiful horse ! On golf course in 35 mile wind, fun!

Sorry, I didn’t read rest of the post, take care!

Actually I tried that but having the PZ on the front wall I star grounded to it only MSB DAC (Power supply chassis) and MSB Amp, both of them sport a ground lug. So other sources on the side wall are not included, call it a “partial” star grounded system!

So sorry for that. How life can change in a second is terrifying! Take care of you and people you love!

Indeed, terrifying. Our inevitable fragility as humans, and even more so when we dare to love other (fragile) humans. The burdens of being ‘sane’ and living an emotionally-meaningful life.

Hope everything goes well with your treatment, and I am missing your input on many fun tweaks we have tried in the past.

Bay Area is experiencing a storm this week. North Bay got over 3 inches of rain in half a day, and South Bay got zero rain. Our morning golf (South) started with 30 miles wind, and by the end of round it had become a hurricane. No rain, and we finished in a crazy day of golf.

So, this afternoon I continued to try the new tweaks I got from yesterday. The HiFi 20 Anniversary AC plug is packed and ready to return. What I found was it did help to deepen the soundstage and cleared up a bit of noise. But it killed the dynamic. Everything sounded recessed and lacking musicality. They overkill on the filtering. I put back the cheaper AC plug from HiFi, and I liked it much better. The 20 AC plug may work in other types of conditioners/generators, but not with PowerZone.

Xangsane grounding box is a gem, and I found that even grounding cables make SQ difference. I replaced the stock cable with the green cable from Puritan (because it has a RCA plug that fits MU2 better), and the magic has decreased greatly. I put back the Xangsane cable and SQ improved.

I have a extra green spade grounding cable, and I will try it with PowerZone to form a star grounding configuration with RouteMaster in a later date.

Donald, the difference in the effect of the cables for MU 2 could be because the banana plug is used to eliminate interference on the chassis ground and the RCA connector is used to connect the signal ground. Some components differ in their construction between the mass of the housing and the mass of the signal. As far as I know, a resistor is often connected between the signal ground. Perhaps that is one reason for the effect of the ground box. I’ll see if I can take advantage of the Black Friday offers.

All these earth ground, signal ground, and chassis ground are confusing. I thought all my components are connected by the RouteMaster through their chassis, but I have spade, RCA, ethernet, and loop connectors from these green cables. So, some of them are connecting to the RCA inputs/outputs, and some to their grounding posts. I am not sure if I connected them correctly.

Donald, grounding is new territory for me too. I just placed an order on Aliexpress to get some grounding toys. Then I can experiment a bit myself. :innocent:
I read in a shop that you don’t recommend connecting a groundbox to the outputs. It could result in a thin sound. They recommend connecting them to the chassis of a component.

Greetings Andreas

I know it seems a mess this new grounding rabbit hole, but believe me worth the time and effort understanding how to manage signal vs earth ground.

Here a white paper from CAD that can help you understanding:

I just connected one of the Linkup cables from the wall to my etherRegen (then Muon Pro etc). It took less than 3 seconds to realise this was an excellent step up!! I’ll play around with the other two later. Still waiting for my fibre cables to arrive…
