Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

Don’t do it!

With the Fed’s announcement of the interest rate change, the market is taking a dive today. Have no fear, someone will fart and it will shoot back up! No rhyme or reason to this stuff. Stay the course!

@dchang05 Hey Donald, I am surprised that you’ve narrowed down your search to the 333 so quickly. It is by all measures fantastic. But there are so many other Amps or integrated out there. Many of which you can see and hear based on your location.

For instance, have you looked at Accuphase? E-800S is 50W of Class A. They have several other components you might find interesting.

Lets just say that I have been brain-washed by a few influential members here

I am surprised to see many Accuphase E800 selling on eBay, very interesting. I am not sure if I could bring one from Japan, there will be some tariff I must pay, I guess.

dust is not settled yet, I am still looking.

I think that’s because of upgrading to the E800S vs the E800. Sorta like Diablo 300 to 333.

The Accuphace E800 is a fine piece, and there are so many more. Take your time explore, and listen to various integrated amplifiers. No reason to rush into it.

Donald, you actually only need a good stereo-or two mono power amplifiers. Why have an integrated one when you have an excellent Grimm MU2? The Diablo 333 with just one streamer would be a nice thing. But I wouldn’t cheat twice. I also don’t know whether a Diablo would be better than my mono power amplifiers with the Cambridge Edge NQ in my situation. If a Diablo were an option for me, I would replace the amplifier and preamplifier. Then: Diablo and a good streamer, done.

I missed this. All this time and I’ve just been listening to brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not

One reason was from my great PZ experience that made me investigate Gryphon more. All reviews were positive, which is not surprising. But many mentioned Gryphon trickled down their top-level tech. into 333 too so its sound is almost as good. Our Gryphon cult-leader Al himself, who owns Apex, gave a thump up too.

One issue with MU2 is it does not come with a remote. It is not an issue for me, but my wife likes a remote control more than using an iPad. She uses the top disk so often that I start worry about the longevity of MU2.

Anyway, I plan to listen to it at a dealership first.

Thanks to the IR remote sensor that came with the MU2 and its programmability, I’m actually using a PS Audio Strata remote as my primary means of controlling the MU2 You can use practically any IR remote.

I better read the menu.

I just saw someone selling a Gryphon Diablo 333 for €16,500 with a warranty. In March 2024 it was bought for €26,500. Which streamer would fit this and would be necessary? I would then just need longer speaker cables. I still have a Furutech Project V1 power cable left for this. The Diablo + Streamer set would replace my AVM MA 8 mono power amplifiers and the Cambridge Edge NQ. The idea of buying a Grimm MU2 instead of the Cambridge Edge NQ would also be off the table. :joy:

This forum and always new fantasies.

Don’t let others on the forum pressure you to which brand you should get, Donald. Every system is unique. If I had your speakers, I would seriously look into the BHK’s because there’s always a synergy with equipment from the same company. Just my opinion.

According to the test reports, the Diablo 333 should sound excellent, but also be a bit analytical and bright. The seller of the Diablo also writes that he is selling it using a Gryphon pre/power amp combination with a warmer, more organic sound that better matches his speakers with diamond tweeters.

Make sure the 333 has the optional DAC, otherwise you will need a DAC for your streamer.

I don’t think he’s being pressured. I would call it solid advice. Mostly coming from those who have owned or still own the same gear. I myself once owned M1200 amps which I think are very good but when you start adding in Grimm MU2, powerzone, and FR30’s there are much better options imo to bring out the speakers and source components full potential! Just my opinion.

Thanks for your hint. Since I only have a CD drive, I would probably need a DAC. The Gryphon DAC module costs an additional €7000. Pretty steep prices. There would also be a phono module for those who like records.
