Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

I just recently came upon Marcin in the YouTube algorithm. Simply an amazing player. Watching him perform versus listening to what is actually coming from that guitar is a wonder.
I enjoy the playing of Rodrigo y Gabriela, the Mexican acoustic guitar duo who have been around for quite a while. I was impressed with Gabriela Quintero’s method of playing both percussion and chords; as if it was nothing to her.
Like Marcin, they play a wide variety of musical styles.

“School Days” is another really good album.

Marcin is new to me also. I stumbled across the track I posted listening to someone’s (Can’t remember who’s) playlist on QoBuz and was blown away. I agree simply amazing! I will give the others you mentioned a listen, Thanks!

Start with their 2009 ‘Tiny Desk Concert’. It’s the best way to take them in for the first time.

Think I’m gonna buy, haven’t pulled the final trigger yet, a new Mola Mola Tambaqui!!

Perfect form factor, reputation, and price negotiated is good. I was concerned with the 6V output on the XLRs but the fine folks at Pass put my mind at ease (volume offset can be set in the Mola Mola app either way) within minutes of sending them an email.

Think there are Tambaqui owners that post here?

Paul in the “Ask Paul” segment this morning talked about ethernet vs. Wi-Fi, and he concluded there should not be a difference in SQ if proper noise isolation is implemented. I agree from my personal experience recently.

After PZ arrived, I moved my Puritan PSM-156 and GM to upstairs. I plugged modem/router into it, and used GroundMaster City too (I used a $100 wall plug-in before). I really do not hear much improvement from the downstairs audio system. I use Wi-fi. Only a satellite is connected through ethernet to the streamer (along with a bunch noise isolation cables and switches).

So, I plan to move Puritan into HT room if someone wants to buy my P15 residing there now.

Steve Guttenberg thinks they’re the bees knees of DACs.

I had a hard and fast relationship with my Tambaqui. It has a very distinctive sound, unusual for a DAC. Very, very enjoyable. Congratulations! I loved mine, but just for three months.
(I am a DAC slut)

*my Tambaqui was replaced by the DAC in the Grimm MU2. I don’t use that DAC anymore either.

The Tambaqui app took a little getting used to. It has many inputs on the back but you get to choose which ones are active and controllable. It allows you to control up to four inputs at once. The 6 volt output can be controlled and contained with the app. The whole Tambaqui experience is very advanced and very enjoyable.

To me, it doesn’t matter what DAC you compare it to, the Tambaqui has a very unique sound. Speed, damn this DAC is FAST! How does that make it sound? Listen and enjoy!

Agreed!
I demoed the Mola when I was toying with the idea of a new dac. It belonged to a friend, as I don’t have a dealer for them nearby

Anywho, I digress. It was in my system following a year of the Lampizator Atlantic tubed dac, however one defines “transient speed” the Mola had it in spades. A unique sound, no question. I enjoyed it, but ended up going with MSB, which I adore

Best,
JP

I had a brief time with the Tambaqui last year. Yes, a very unique sound and I was immediately left with the “it’s so fast” impression. It’s hard to describe, but like Al and others have said, the information seems unfettered and on speed. Not my choice, but a worthy one. Always wondered how this would mate with a good tube amp. :exploding_head:

If you are looking to compare Jamie at The Audio Experience has a MSB DAC listed on his website. He’s in Palatine, IL

Going to be giving the Schiit Wotan amp a try. Supposed to drive Magnepan LRS’s to new levels. Sounds interesting, so going to pair it with my Schiit Freya + preamp and see how it does compared to my M700 amps.

Went for it. I hesitated a couple days while looking at some alternatives. The Tambaqui should work perfectly for me. Thanks all for the input!!
