I would never again buy a Sub Zero…or a boat for similar reasons.
How old is your old refridgerator? I ask cause mine is 21 years old.
can you get the Shunyata Omega power cord for the fridge Donald? ![]()
Will the food taste better with a stealth?
He already has one on his wine cooler refrigerator…![]()
I checked and the LG French door we bought was in June, 2020. So it is not even six year old.
Here is the thing, when you take your wife to buy refrigerator that is always asking for trouble. We ended bought another LG French four door Refrig. that was on a big sale of $1500 discount. So, the total including haul away and installation is ONLY $3,000. Let us see how long this one will last, and I bet my expensive power cords will last longer than that.
The good thing is that this one is the best looking one on display, and that is the most important thing to my wife since she can show her friends at parties. ![]()
Wow! That is not good at all!
My current refrigerator is a Whirlpool that is over 15 years old and still running like a champ!
When I was a kid my parents had a Westinghouse fridge from the 50’s that lasted 50 years…They sure don’t make them like they used to!
Chalk it up to planned obsolescence…and pure greed…![]()
Sorry Donald, but I consider that just a sin. The only time a piece of prime should ever go in the freezer is for a few hours before a sear-first cooking, if you’re in to that technique. I know it can be done, and done well for storage, but it just ain’t my thing.
We had a Kitchaid (?) that only lasted four years, then we switched to a LG that lasted a long time (10+plus year but we just wanted a new one). So, we thought LG has a more reliable records. The one broke down was over $2k with some fancy techy functions that we never used.
We were told no matter what the prices are nowadays the new appliance seldom last over 10 years. This is from the Best Buy salesman. Well, at least my wife likes it.
I just put on the new Omega-X, and I am having a WOW moment already.
But its time to get two more ice packs, the two big ones are not enough.
It is from Costco big package so it takes more than one meal.
But you are right after freezing there needs to be more prep work to do.
You’re excused.
Those big Costco packages are hard to resist. My butcher’s Primes are better - but way more expensive!
My latest upgrade is putting three large bags of ice cubes into the dead refrigerator to keep everything cool, and hopefully by tomorrow morning inside is still cool. I need to continue the ice pack routine until Monday when the new one is scheduled to be delivered.
Back to audio, I have the Omega-X ethernet in the chain for a couple of hours, and the SQ is already better. The bass is better defined and tighter, and treble and midrange are sounding more vivid and textured. As a result the streaming SQ is the clearest I have ever heard, and also the most natural I have heard too. This is only after two hours of playing so the best is yet to come.
Interestingly, in the past I have not heard a major difference from ethernet cables. Omega was a noticeable improvement, but it was not like their USB cable which made a bigger improvement in my previous system. Either my current streaming chain is more resolved, or the Omega-X is something special. It is probably both, and I felt this is a worthy investment.
I am sure there will always be cable doubters out there, and I understand why. Wire is wire, and its purpose is transmit current and signal. So, why would it affect how a system sound anyway?
Because once you have heard what a great cable could do in a highly-resolved system, you know even a great system could be improved so much by using the great cables. Why are there so many audiophiles spent tons of money on cables? are they all nuts? Simple, many who own audiophile-level systems know the value of cables from their own experiences. They knew there are more ways to improve SQ other than component upgrade, and cables are the next thing to make the most improvement (some are as much improvement as components themselves).
Of course, the hard part is finding a cable that would make a true difference instead of just making a different sound. Here is where the black hole lies and one can waste a ton on a merry-go-around journey. I cannot help you on that since I am on the ride myself still. ![]()
So that brings to my point of this long post. I want to mention my latest “truly matter” cable, and it is the new Shunyata Omega-X ethernet cable. This cable has transformed my streaming SQ to a different level, and it has replaced its predecessor, an older Omega ethernet which I thought was great. I will just simply say if you think your streaming SQ needs improvement, you should try the new generation of Shunyata digital cables. You do not need to start from Omega-X. From what I have heard I believe two to three level down from it you will still hear an obvious improvement.
Now back to my music enjoyment.
Thoughtful comments, Donald. Our audiophile universe is ever expanding and the idea that cables do make a difference seems well established.
Digital cables, however, have taken a longer time to make main stage, at least for me. I don’t know if my ear is better, or the system is better, or both, but the difference is there.
It’s funny that state of the art digital requires the care, complexity, and expense, that was once the hallmark of analog. I got rid of my Linn Sondek long ago and I’m not looking back.
I would like to have one more pair of Sakra V17’s in Balanced, and two more in unbalanced. I am told the unbalanced are much better sounding. I have none so I don’t get to know.
When I gave up the Sakra Gold I was nervous. But I got through it without Tryers Remorse.
Updating my music streaming/video chain with -
(4) QSA Discovery Veridion Ethernet cables
(2) QSA Discovery Veridion DC Power Extension cables
(2) QSA Discovery Veridion HDMI cables
(2) QSA Discovery Veridion Power Strips
- QSA Discovery Veridion Ethernet cable from the ATT Fiber Optic box > ATT Router
- QSA Discovery Veridion Ethernet cable from Ediscreation Silent Switch OCXO Extreme > EMM Labs DA/Music Server
- QSA Discovery Veridion Ethernet cable from Ediscreation Silent Switch OCXO Extreme > AppleTV4K box
- QSA Discovery Veridion HDMI cable from AppleTV4K box > Sony XR77A95L OLED TV
The Veridion Ethernet cables are impressive once broken in. Curious to hear how you get on with the HDMI cables–havent taken the plunge on that one yet.
I’m waiting on a coax cable, 10 meter Ethernet, and two sets of the xlr cables.
I do not think I will ever use this cord on PMGs, MU2 streamer, or on a switch. it may drag down any of them to the floor when there is a little earthquake (in CA), and cause some serious damage! ![]()
Interesting to know how does it sound compare to your Stealth cords.
