Your Next Upgrade? (Part 3)

Digital has gotten so good that I am not missing my vinly rig much anymore. It’s all a matter of tweaking and getting the right digital setup. Vinyl is so inconvenient. I still love vinyl, but I play digital much more nowadays.

With talk about headphones on the forum, and another discussion regarding bose, this is my current stereo system, for 24 hours…

How does it sound?

I use these Bose earbuds. Sound pretty good, and it doesn’t fall out of the ears like many other brands. Love these earbuds!

Actually…quite good

Personally heard it with the Supatrac, and it certainly sounded fine, most fine. As Al implies once heard it can not be unheard.

Congrars on the refund!!!

My receipt from McDonalds today…I think they’re trying to tell me something…

That number looks kind of creepy!

Take away the 1

The 333 is no longer necessary. Stand alone Amplifiers are a thing of the past.

This is a good thing, as the number 333 keeps showing up, lol.

333 is my favorite number now, it is much better than 444.

If Gryphon next upgrade of 333 is 444, I am not doing it.

Adifferentpaul, it is a sign for you to upgrade.

666 is next. You will do it anyway.

Yup, I probably will.

Speaking of 333, @dchang05 that number just showed up again…

444 is mine, the time in the morning my first child daughter Sarah was born, I see it all the time and send a note to her at that time, she’ll respond “but Dad it’s 244 here” she’s in Colorado lol

Great music from my system made me dull nowadays. What do I do for the next upgrade? I have tweaked MU2 to make its Roon sounded as good as Maestro even (when Maestro worked occasionally, and it is not now). An active speakers? No, I am not going to that hole yet.

All my gears are pretty much endgame pieces that make sense to me. I am still waiting for the active grounding device. It should be here next week, and I hope it will bring a little meaningful improvement. I am deciding should I try a new jumpers for FR30 top box (I have tried a few already and they matter). Okay, that maybe my next move after our Asia trip that is approaching soon.

Hi David, please how exactly do you match Roon and Maestro, SQ wise?

Sounds to me (pun intended) that there is absolutely nothing left to improve on your system leading to abject boredom. Therein is the bane of the tweaker. Funny that word is so close to the spelling of a speaker. Perhaps you got into this game for the fun of gear. Nothing wrong with that, back in my long past youth, I would “upgrade” by building another Heathkit because I had outgrown my Erector Set. Have you fully explored room treatment. That is another, HUGE rabbit hole.

The setup that helped MU2 with internal SSD more (therefor on Roon too) came from a number of upgrades and tweaks that I did:

  1. Replacing AM M2 fuse with SR Pink fuse improved detail and pin-point soundstage while maintained its analog-like SQ
  2. Replacing Stack EQ with AUVA 100. I know it is total overkill, but I have 4 extra and like the SQ much better. Also, a thick maple block and metal columns below Stack feet helped isolating vibration even more
  3. Both Roon and MU2 have had a number of FW updates that improved SQ further
  4. LHY SW-10 pro and Muon Pro plus two Shunyata Omega X ethernets improved both PMG and MU2, also made they sounded closer to each other.

I also use top Stealth Cloude Grande series power cords for both PMG and MU2. These are the best cords for DAC I believe. They are easily better than my previous AQ Dragon cords.

As a result, In my system Roon sounded just as good as Maestro, and I really do not hear an obvious SQ advantage from Maestro. :woman_shrugging:
