What happened to Edgar’s actives?
Stepping in, but I understand AL has offered them to Forum Members, and RonP requested pictures. Having heard them at Axpona two years back I was pleasantly pleased with them. Bacch is required.
First I will remind you that I built a glorious system that should be hard to beat. Then, for fun, I decided to try to beat it with MUCH less expensive gear. First test, the Edgar Martinas. At $14k and change versus $800k there was little chance that the Martinas could equal or best what I already have. The Martinas are wonderful and play in a league way above what they cost. But unsurprisingly, they are no match for what I already have.
Remember, I am doing research here.
Next up, the Kii 3BXTs. I believe they will be closer to what I already have but they list for somewhere above $60k.
When I mentioned to Edgar my interest in Kii speakers he dismissed them and announced his Martinas being released soon. He believes his Martinas are giant killers. I thought I would give them a try. My giants survived. Bring on the next contestant.
I’m just having fun. I will say Martinas and a Bacch4Mac setup, well under $25K, would be magical for many. Someone could live happily ever after with that setup.
Recently I purchased a pair of AEquo Audio Stilla Active speakers. They came with custom power cables and custom interconnect cables, one for each speaker. The power cables came with an inexpensive IEC C16 connector on one end and a locking Neutrik PowerCON connector on the other end. I like that the power to speaker connection is locking. I replaced this with a Furutech DPS-4.1 cable with a Furutech FI-50M NCF AC connector and a Neutrik PowerCON connector on the other end. The interconnect cables came with an XLR connector and a two RCA connectors on the other end. They were not even wired as per typical XLR connectors. I replaced this with a Furutech DAS-4.1 cable with a Furutech CF-602F NCF XLR connector and a pair of Furutech CF-102R NCF RCA connectors at the other end. I purchased everything (except the Neutrik PowerCON connectors) from Chris at VH Audio. I highly recommend them as a source to DIY cable enthusiasts. I have been listening with the DIY upgraded power and interconnect cables for about a few weeks. They still need more burn-in. There is already a significant jump in sound quality (better clarity and bass, quieter background, image is more solid, vocals sound more realistic). I have photos of the two cables. The DIY Furutech cables I made are on the left and the original cables are on the right. Cables make a difference to me - I know that not everyone believes this.
