I am certain the NPC will do a very nice job.
As to what sounds best, or if high resolution PCM and DSD even sound different, is of ongoing debate.
It appears however that all who invest the time and money in the ability to rip SACDs and play them back as DSD all believe this sounds best. Just like BMW owners asserting their cars are better than Audi, this is probably just a coincidence.
With the recent firmware updates, my Oppo BDP-105 can now play DSD files. I have ISOs of all my SACDs and am able to extract the DFF files using SACD Extract. I’ve been gathering all the DFFs onto an external USB drive and am looking forward to hooking the Oppo up to the NPC when it comes.
Interesting. I see this is software someone created but I am confused as to how you get the ISO of the SACD in the first place.
Typically the SACD ISO is downloaded from a file sharing source.
Some have a PS3 setup to rip their own SACDs to an ISO, but they are in the minority.
From what I have seen, the legitimate commercial sites sell individual DSD files.
Paul FYI.

Yes, the PS3 must have the older 3.50 firmware for the SACD ripping to work.
Before the recent firmware updates, the Oppo was capable of playing these SACD ISOs burned to DVDs. It is no longer able to, but the ability to play the individual DSD files is much preferred in my case. When I get my grubby hands on the NPC, I will likely rip most of my vinyl collection into DSD files.
Not sure of a good tagging program yet for DSD files. Anyone have a good recommendation?
The PS3 must also be one of the earlier models that does SACD of course, the later ones do not. There is a list I believe in one of the links.
Go to the CA site for tagging, I am sure someone can help .

It is unfortunate they dropped this ability. I have not watched Oppo firmware developments, why did they drop this?
@elk
Not sure the official reason, but since the player now supports DSD over USB and SMB, I am guessing that they want to support this “legitimate” content over the other. Oppo never officially supported the ability to play SACD-Rs, but now clearly want to officially support DSD playback.
Hopefully the Oppo will allow for the streaming of these DSD files via DLNA/UPnP at some point in the future.
Very interesting. I bet you are correct.
The thing that bothers me about Oppo locking out SACD-R functionality is that with the rise of DSD downloads, many of us may want to author our own SACDs with the individual files that we download. I have done the same with HDTracks downloads. In my case, I would also like to author many of my vinyl rips as SACD-Rs.
I love the functionality of playing individual DSD files with the Oppo, but would also like to be able play my own SACD-Rs as well. Not all SACD-Rs are pirated.
As I recall, the Oppo will play DSD from a connected USB drive or a USB flash drive. These can, of course, play any number of files/tracks.
The new issue is that the Oppo will no longer play a DVD-R with DSD files burned on it. Thus, you can play the same files from USB, but you cannot play them off of a shiny disk. That is, a lost of a storage format.
Can you stream DSD to the Oppo from a server other than SMB?
No streaming functionality yet, but I’m hoping this will be implemented soon. Oppo has given no indication that it will become available, but I see no reason why it would not at some point.
If you cannot stream it makes sense to want as many storage mediums as possible.
