Air Lens Review

Take it to PMs, gentlemen.

The saga of the DS Mk2 is a good lesson though for all who are quick to trash any review that isnā€™t overflowing in praise for PSA products. This particular review was fairly positive, although pointed out some shortcomings with AL, especially when not paired with a PSA dac.

This review, however, was not negative like the John Atkisson review of the DS Mk2 in Stereophile, where he said it sounded worse (at the time with that firmware) than some $2k dacs and all 6 of the dacs he directly compared Mk2 head-to-head against, and made a big deal about how noisy the Mk2 was in measurements. After that review came out, several forum members trashed JA and said it couldnā€™t be a PSA problem, that the problem had to be with upstream or downstream components, or at worst was of no consequence so long as you buy other gear carefully, apparently because the dac sounded good in their all-PSA system.

Well, fast forward a year later, Massive firmware release comes out, and Ted admits that he had to fix bugs in the firmware to correct the noise/tick/pops/etc problems (ie, the problem was in the Mk2 all along, as JA indicated in the review but which several forum members could not accept). Maybe I missed it, but I havenā€™t seen any of those forum members apologizing to JA, when he was apparently right all alongā€¦

Reviews aside, we should always listen before buying and PS Audio with its 30-day money-back guarantee policy gives us all the peace of mind of finding the right balance in our systems.
I hope no one was offended by that meme.

Yep. Reviews just gives you an idea. You always have to try something to make that final determination.
