Thanks, my bruthuh. I have a Pass XA30.5 and XP-30 pre.
Turntable Jim (as he’s called around here) is a volume freak. His room is gargantuan and I never heard my little amp move so much air.
Jim has a business and he just calls Big Mongo and Big Mongo’s big brother from the shop. I’ll tip them big, so they don’t twist me like a pretzel.
Ok, hold everything. Marge, Jim’s Chief of Design and Marital Harmony thinks the XLF’s “are hideous” and “will cause her nightmares”, etc, etc.
I knew a Sabrina Wilson in grad school in Texas. She was dating someone else, so I have no experience with her. Sadly.
I was so buying a set of Alexx V. But instead I got what I got and it’s solidly endgame at a half the price. I still wonder though. I know pretty well that the XVX is in my future. Doh.
Just remember to take the wheels off Al! (lol)
I was at their house again last night. I misspoke, not being familiar with the Wilson line. He has XVXs, in black and they do look absurd in their living room. Marge insists they’ll give her nightmares.
I’m seeing some Sonus Faber Aidas in their room; happy wife, happy life. I hope so, I want his Sabrinas.
I hope you get them Rob. I have a different model Wilson and upgraded from Pass to a unit with 400 per channel to drive them. For fun though, I hooked them up to a Naim Nova at 80wpc. They sounded wonderful. They (I’m thinking the newer models) may be easier to drive than most of us think. My Sabrina’s were hooked to a X250.8. Great combo there… For Wilson IMHO SS is the way to go.
The XVX speakers look way too much like the bad thing in the Alien movies. In black they would be horrifying to me.
In safety orange though they would be fine.
How about hanging a bit of slime off the top box?
What Zu’s do you have? I’ve been eyeing the new Soul 6… And a friend lent me a First Watt F7 which might be a very good match…
I have Soul Supremes. I like them so much that if I upgrade, I’ll keep them.
The F7 is a perfect match for any of the ZUs.
Might want to check out the Alta Alec speakers.
In this review the reviewer feels the Alec sounds better than the Sabrina X.
I’ve never heard the Wilson Audio Sabrina X, so I can’t comment, but I do own the Alta Alec speakers and they are outstanding speakers, punching way above their price point.
I heard some Aidas biamped with the MC901 both tube and solid state monster amps. They are indeed a fine speaker in both sound and beauty.
I’d heard Wilson several times and they were way beyond my budget for anything but a house extension. I then heard the Sasha DAW and was blown away. We had to change speakers for cosmetic reasons and only listened to the Sabrina because my wife liked the colour of the demo pair in the shop. The were fantastic, so we bought them. We showed the wife the asha DAW and thought them dead ugly. We are very happy with the Sabrina.
FWIW Peter McGrath told me a couple of years ago that Wilson pairs well with NAIM. So not surprised, but nice to hear.
Thanks for that info. Interesting. I see a surprising amount of Wilson’s paired with McIntosh as well.
The Naim is my #2 amp but ever since I had their CD player back in the day I have liked them. Odd setup with DIN and speaker inputs but their amps seem to be top notch. Sound great too…
I knew a Sabrina Wilson way back in my early grad school days. She was dating someone else, so In have no experience of her.
Sorry.
I know a Sabrina; she lives nearby. She looks like an old girlfriend I wish I once had.
So it looks like Mr Turntable will not be upgrading until he meets the esthetic demands of Mrs Turntable, The Artist.
But now I’m crazed about finding some Sabrinas. A friend has a gorgeous shop nearby (SKYFI Audio) and he has some black ones which kinda offend my esthetic sense. And his price is offensive too. waaaaaa
There’s a pair of orange ones on audiogon that are less than a year old. If I had the cash and didn’t just get a pair of stand mounts I’d make an offer. Still settling into my Sopra 1s.
