Any MBL fans out there?

After the Martin Logan thread, why not one about MBL?

I will start: I began with Tannoy D70s, that I still keep and use in the HT system.
Then I got Cabasse Artis Kara speakers : great at everything except bass.
Then B&W 800 D2s, great speakers.

And finally MBL 101 Es, about a year ago.
Compared to the B&Ws, they are faster, with more air, more resolution and more « you are at the recording session » realism.

I would love to hear from other owners or anybody else.

I got my MBL101E II speakers a few years ago and never looked back.
They just disappear and present the most holographic imaging I have ever heard.
Adding the (2) REL212SE subs made it into “Mini MBL Extremes”!

Looks great :+1:
What are the other components of the system ?
Any reflection problems with that big TV screen ?
Do you use any room treatment ?

EMMLabs DV2i D/A
Rowland 925 amps
Taiko Extreme music server
Stealth Audio cables

My new Sony 77” A95L OLED is amazing and used daily, so no way would I not have in the room.
Would the audio improve without having it on the front wall, yes probably. Oh well…

I have (6) Stillpoint Aperture diffraction panels, (4) panels on the front wall and (2) panels on the back wall. There are powerful acoustic treatments that work well.

Getting back to the MBL’s, I am also amazed at how well they work with movies. Along with the REL subwoofers it is quite the experience!!

Do you hear a difference with and without the grilles?

I rarely take the grills off.
Probably a little better audio without, but I like the look on - so…

I agree. They look much better with the grilles on.
Plus they are better protected like that.

Any other fans out there ?
@minnesotafats ?

Yes there is another fan of the MBL 101 E MK2. They work with Mark Levinson (523 preamp and 2 amps 5302) and a Rockna Dac.
I confirm that they work very well on films.

Should I keep the 101e or the FR20?

These look a lot like your speakers, a lot.

Do you listen to them with or without grilles?
Do you hear a difference with and without?

As I have two young children, I have never removed the grilles

My kids are grownups but I have never removed the grilles either.
Much better look, and no interference from the plants nearby or visitors.

Can you share some pictures of your MBLs?

If I had a pair, the grilles would be off, 100% of the time.
The “onion” midrange driver is just so cool looking to hide it.

The three best systems I’ve ever heard include an all MBL set-up.
