Any Wavestream news ?

Is it going to happen soon ??

Any expected time ?

Can Beta version be released to us ?

Thanks.

I heard that last week’s WS beta release was worse & less stable than the one before it. Reading the tea leaves, I would not expect anything worthwhile for 2013.

Who thinks this thing is ever going to work? I hope Paul et al prove me wrong, but I am in the group that says, “Ain’t gonna happen.”

Some better, some not. Issues are being found and resolved, but slowly. Progress IS being made… Unfortunately, we are all in a wait and see mode. It is a pity and a bit of a surprise that the wait has been a year now. While many of us expected delays I doubt that even the most skeptical of us truly anticipated that it would be this long.

I do hesitate to say much from the beta side, but I think that it is reasonable to pass on a little update like this even if there is no real information in it.

As a related subject, if you have a Windoze PC then you really should give foobar2000 a try. With the foo.out.upnp plug-in you do get streaming functionality even though it is only with foobar and no other audio applications on the computer. Best of all, it is free!!! I know, I know… It has been mentioned before, but… This setup has allowed me to enjoy gapless playback through the Bridge and for myself almost eliminates the stress of waiting for WaveStream. Almost.

J.P.

A very nice, appropriate summary and a great suggestion to try Foobar.

Foobar can do lots of other things; I use it to convert among various audio formats rather than paying for something like dbpoweramp. It’s tweaky – installing the plugins would not be fun for folks who aren’t pretty comfortable with computers – which may explain why it isn’t more widely used. But very useful and capable. Its Properties dialog is one of the easiest ways to get a quick view of metadata or check the bit depth/sample rate of a file.

Thanks for the little update, better than nothing.

I think PSAUDIO will benefit from giving us some realistic expectations than not responding at all.

Paul, please give us some information and if available, some hope.

Thanks.

This is the problem - nobody has a clear idea about what 'realistic' is with this new piece of software, and so expectations are difficult to ground in past experience. What's real is that it is taking longer than anyone would like.

I would agree with JP. There was good progress on the last release. In any software situation you take a few steps forward and perhaps one back. I’d characterize it that way. Overall he solved a great deal of the issues in this latest release, got the SQ back, tunneled through a number of hard problems. His task was big between the two versions, he had to rewrite much to get the high resolution stuff to work right. Now it does.

The biggest problem now is the stopping and starting. The other issues the team reported are somewhat minor from a programming standpoint.

He has been able to duplicate the stopping problem. This is great because if the programmer told us he couldn’t duplicate the problem that’s when we worry. He’s working on the fix. That’s about all I have right now.

Hello PS Audio,

Any NEWS on the release of WaveStream?

I am down to the last 8 days on the trial beta WaveStream it has been great being able to listen with WaveStream over the last year… It is functional for me with my sound card set at 24/96 no resolution change. I’ve been using this driver for about a year now. I can use it with Jriver and eLyric those two players are my preference.

Today I went back to the UPnP eLyric remote and eLyric this combination does not have the openness and SQ compared to Wavestream and the eLyric player there is an obvious loss in SQ so I assume bits are not making it in the Ethernet stream.

without being able to use WaveStream the drop in SQ is significant I am super keen to be set up with WaveStream as my DS arrives soon.

I go far as saying everyone is missing out who are not taking advantage of WaveStream and their bridge combo if they have the bridge - it’s easily more musical and revealing SQ then standard UPnP controller

I’m really keen to hear what’s happening is there an expected release date?confused-28_gif105_gif

Thanks

Johno

Somewhere in the dark recesses of my addled brain I seem to remember Dennis telling me the date restriction on WaveStream doesn’t work and once you reach that date it keeps on going. kiss Not sure that’s accurate but you’ll find out in 8 days.2guns_gif

Dennis has been slowly working to open WaveStream up to go open source and release the source code. I haven’t checked with him lately where that project’s at but hopefully he’s close.

Can I safely assume that the 2 previous posts were referring to the PC version of wavestream?

Or more specifically what is the status of the Mac version of wavestream?

Thanks JJ

Hi JJ.

I suspect the problem with Wavestream is twofold.

!/ No visible revenue “stream” to cover the development costs.

2/ It will require constant maintenance and support.

Therefore the desire to make it OS.

The issue is not MP3 or even redbook [think Sonos] It seems to be for higher resolutions a dedicated delivery and receiving protocol is required.

Dante does it with a software push and a hardware [chip] receiver and even then I have not read recently how high they can go. They start with 16 tracks and you gain resolution as you drop down to, eventually, two.

Why don’t we do a crowd source for Wavestream money?

The hardware [chip] could go in the Bridge2. That otta put it on the map pretty quick.

So reading between the lines, and such, the process of getting Wavestream into a useable product would be ‘accelerated’ by funding the project via a crowd funding approach.

I would further assume it would need to include both PC and Mac in order to attract enough people/$$$.

And while I would heartily support such an effort, it also seems like we are still many months if not a year (or more) out…

I had hoped we would be (much) closer…

And this ‘need’ also applies to the DS as well since there is no ‘well developed’ Ethernet player on Mac, nor PC.

But it also seems as though Wavestream on the PC platform is ‘closer’ (from the above posts).

damn… 45_gif

JJ

ps as an alternative perhaps JRiver could ‘somehow’ be suitably ‘motivated’ to ‘improve’ their existing Ethernet player(s)…

Just a thought…

Dennis,

Please give us an update.

Thanks.

When I can get it cleaned up, copyright messages put in, and building and working I will upload it to SourceForge.net for open source release. But it is nowhere near being done yet. I will release a version without the expiration. The problem is I have many more things on my plate of higher priority. I will get it finished as soon as I can and let you know.

Hi Dennis

Thanks Deleted WS via uninstaller and removed via regedit, reinstalled works great now

Hi Dennis,

The community is waiting for so long, please give it priority, it is so important for most users of the PWD.

I suggest you publish it as a BETA and let us the users get out the MAX out of it.

Thanks,

Amnon

Says it all right there. Looks like WaveStream is dead in the water. Too bad, looked promising.

It is not dead. It will just take a free day or two to get it ready.

That’s a joke, right?
