Anybody following the MOFI "One Step" fiasco?

Maybe it should be called (all about) MeTube?

And SnailTube; everything which could be stated in five seconds must take 30 minutes.

I give up immediately on almost all YouTube videos.

By the way, why are video’s “tubes”?

A lot of truth in that observation…

I think “tubes” is a slang reference to old style TV picture tubes. Maybe.

Excellent hypothesis

When we were kids we called it “the tube”.
Let’s see what’s on the tube tonight. (When you had to buy a TV Guide at the corner store)

Your TV—It’s a “boob tube”.

pretty much every one related to hifi or vinyl that I followed presently or in the past discussed this topic, haha

Boob tube, idiot box, same thing.

Here’s hoping all the customers who feel duped by MoFi flood the used market with their collections so I can gobble them up at reduced prices. :joy:

I agree.
What triggered their “collectability” was the particular route the albums purportedly took on their way into the retail package, which is the claim that they were 100% ananlog.
If they’ve been shown to not be all analog, that collectible trigger no longer exists.
But they still sound great.
I feel sorry, however, for those collectors who spent hundreds, or thousands on these albums.

Right on man, they still sound great.

I expect this tempest in a teapot will subside soon enough and the album prices will continue on their upward trajectory…

Moral outrage doesn’t last very long when money, exclusivity or bragging rights are at stake.

Music Direct updated the MoFi One-Step Thriller’s description. So far this is the only title that got the update.

Will those who buy new releases on spec (immediately selling sealed copies on Discogs and eBay) continue the practice or might this slow down a bit?

Tempest on a Turntable, you mean! I’m not a Brit, so I have a much more casual relationship with teapots😝

MoFi have kept to their promise and updated some (a lot?) of their historical listings to include the full source and mastering chain

This is a really important step and one that’s been called on for decades now, I sincerely hope this becomes a universal and legal requirement to save this kind of issue occuring in the future.

I still think Jim Davis really needed to make a public apology on camera and a long time ago, I have no idea why he’s left it this late!

I’ve heard reports that avid collectors are returning huge libraries of MoFi records as they’ve been missold, weather or not MoFi are taking those returns or not, I don’t know, but I don’t really see how they can’t in good faith without avoiding a pretty serious court case.

There’s no doubt they’re doing good things from here, that’s great to see. We’ll see what damage this does to them in the long term, I think they’re big enough to weather it.

Wouldn’t it make sense for an industry-wide standard to stamp or label every record “AAA” or “ADA” or whatever the case may be? How hard would that be?

Or perhaps the first label to do so, reaps the market reaction reward.

There’s really no hard legal liability here, correct?
