Apparent not so happy news for tube lovers

They are really cool tubes with the blue glass and the big 274B size though shaped like a bottle type 5U4G (and electrically a big 5U4G and not a 274B).

I am relieved that it worked out for you. . . it gets better as it gets some hours on it. . . a bit more bass comes in but doesn’t spoil the rest, the treble gets a bit sweeter. I rolled an awful lot of rectifiers til I came around to that one!

I’ll have some tips when you get your Anniversary amp and can start using regulation tubes. . .

Tubes - I’m sure they will be readily available for a small Fee & a Waybill…
(See what I did there…?)

You funny

Looked at the Sophia Rectifier again today, and am holding off for the moment. I am certain the sound improvement will be stellar, but the warranty provided caused me to take a pause, especially as some Chinese tubes just do not hold up. I am assuming Lon has had no reliability issues with these. Still there has to be a reason for the $40 up charge to go from 30 days to a year. I get that most tubes come with no warranty, but my read is the seller’s experience with returns may be the basis.

On a different note I am curious as to regulator tubes for the SE84UFO25.

I’ve had three in operation for three years with no issue.

For the components with Anniversary Mods I have these are the very best rectifiers I have used. Next would be the Type 80 Globe in RCA or Cunningham or RCA/Cunningham labeling. What actually works best for my main system is the Aquas in the amps and the Type 80 Globe in the preamp. Boom. Best of both worlds.

With a different complement of input and regulation tubes I really liked 5V4/GZ34 types in RCA or Mullard brands, and Amperex 5R4WGB. Each are a bit different but each give detailed, smooth, slightly warm sound–a more ‘classic’ tube amp sound if you will, but just slightly more than the modern cosmic Decware sound.

That does help, at three years, I have no concerns regarding the Sophia. I’d be more concerned if they began to degrade at 45 days. Thanks once again.
