Aspen FR20 vs Sonus Faber

How would you compare the sound of the Fr20’s to the Sonus Faber speaker?

Interesting query!
Which SF series/type are you referring to?

that’s the confusing part, i believe i had heard the Amati Homage a couple of years ago, but they were a bit pricey

In the meantime, SF arrived at G5. The original hommage (https://www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/139/index.html) was pricey and the new ones saw an increase of 75%. Besides their inherent techniques, their sound characteristic have been ‘modernized’. The Homage series is well over 25 years old. So, it’s relevant to know what iteration we’re talking about.

I have the Guarneri Homage. Although still good sounding, it can’t keep the pace and resolution of well designed modern speakers.

I’m sorry, the names of the Sonus Faber speakers tend to confuse me. The ones that I heard were the Sonus faber Amati, which is one in their Homage series, currently in production

Based on the reviews I’ve read whether it be the Serafino or the Amati from the Homage line you should hear none of the things that bother you about your B&W speakers. It comes down to whether you are more comfortable with $26k or $36k.

I’d be more comfortable with $19,000 for the FR20’s. Which is why I was asking if anyone can describe the difference in sound between the two companies.

Several issues with finding that comparison. One some of those SF models have been through different owners, designers and models. For example the Amati is on it’s 5th revision and they would all sound slightly different though none would be considered bright or forward. Second the FR-20’s are out of stock and when they come back it is very unlikely the price will be near $19K with the tariffs in place. It would take an owner of both from a current SF to be relevant. Maybe Chris can if he’s heard both with similar equipment.

Well with the tariffs in place, better value to buy from Italy.

There are tariffs on EU products also so maybe just set a price limit and concentrate on buying the speaker that sounds best to you and not the best bargain. As you live in New England a 2-3 hour drive in most any direction will get you to plenty of high end stores to actually listen for yourself and not just the store in Delaware. There was a mint pair of Serafino Homage latest version for a good price on US Audiomart.

I don’t live in New England. I did listen to the Serafino’s, sounded good but small. I forget what size woofers they have, but they just couldn’t produce the oomph like the larger ones did
