Waiting for Dragon. Might get it Today. Really exciting the upcoming sessions with AQ Dragon 48 and my current HDMI Connection Nordost Valhalla 2 over the next couple of days - or weeks?
I’ll let you know …
Isn’t the Valhalla maybe three times as much?
Worst case you have to sell a mint condition Dragon?
AudioQuest Tour, Part III: In the Cable Assembly Room - YouTube
Actually, USA, Netherlands, and China
Yes better plan 3 to 4 weeks for the AQ Dragon to finally lose the hard edges and sound completely natural.
Here’s a good one…
Purchase Dragon HC power cord for P12 or upgrade to P15?! System normally runs at 40-60%
Hmmmmm
@Mcroth Depending how maxed out the P12 was and whether what cord your using on it now. I think I’d jump to a P15 and do the 3M AB7050HF modification with a SR purple fuse first then the Dragon. My gut feel the P15 and cheaper mods likely give you as much as a Dragon on a P12.
I paid just 200 € more for my Valhalla 2 nearly 2 Years ago. Hopefully both will Play in the same League and just Dragon will have more resolution in representing Sound Stage and Ultra Treble. Somehow thrilling
The dragon soundstage was narrower at first than my previous cord. It takes awhile to bloom. I think what it adds in resolution and bass will keep you amused until width opens up. I still think soundstage maybe narrower than my previous cord. Definitely it has less artificial air or noise than most cords Some live amplified performances give that to you as an electronic amplifier buzz or noise riding on the signal. If you’re into acoustic depth of soundfield and clean sound it is a winner. Or if your system has tubes you may still get that plush warmer sound.
I am going to set my dairy for a 9 months reminder to survey you all for your evaluations of your latest cable interests in August 2022, then buy one.
Promising! Less artificiality and less noise seem to get more realistic acoustic depth, as you mentioned it, Vmax. In my setup with Neumann KH 420 active studio monitors you are getting bored or disturbed in following the music flow by caused harshness or too much treble issues …
Seems like a great scenario. If Dragon is better than Nordost you can sell it and buy 2 more Dragons!
Yes that is the feeling it gives me and the ability to listen at lower levels on the preamp but still gives one a sense of being loud. Please form your own opinion and provide feedback. One might think bass is less until you listen at same preamp or power level you once did.
Good question! Sounds like a win win! You get the Dragon and it makes the p12 theoretically sound better then if you decide to go p15 you will have the dragon. I don’t think you can go wrong any direction where when it comes to P15 or Dragon! Reverse the order P15 then dragon later but tough choice! I asked myself the same question. P10 to P15? or Dragon with P10? For me both will happen at sometime!
This gonna be interesting. I have the Valhalla 2 USB is am amazed how much better it sounds to my other USB cables. Only reason I didn’t get a Valhalla HDMI was because @Phil tried it and he preferred others. I would really like to see what this Dragon can do in a direct comparison to the Valhalla.
I’m more curious to see the Dragon 48 vs. the Nordost! Like @waymanchen11stated the dragon 48 will need adequate time to really make a fair evaluation. Tho I heard a difference immediately over the RAL! For the record the RAL is a great cable with great sound the dragon is just better much, much better IMO!
Yes, the brightness over time will just blend in with the other frequencies and become just very clear sounding. Because of the purity unlike other cables that has a lot of highs but are dirty highs, the highs will sound very pleasing with the Dragon. The Dragon does take a long break in though.
I got the Dragon for a fair price. But there is no chance to check, test and return, if it will not be the right choice in my setup. So I have a lot of time for comparisons. For instance the WW platinum was too bright for me. But the musical flow and the top end resolution with Nordost Valhalla 2 may be topped by another opportunity: the Dragon? I will see …
@frankvisser I find interesting that the WWPS7 was too bright for you. So far it was one of the mellowest I had heard on highs until the Dragon HDMI settled. Hmm you might have a rough ride until the Dragon 48 breaks in.
The Dragon is anything but subtle. It’s a shocking improvement that makes me feel like I am finally hearing everything in great detail and there is zero good reason to stop listening. If you don’t agree you are blessed with the situation where you can stop buying cables. It’s perhaps the single most noticeable change I have made. It towers over the Matrix and all its improvements
Or am I confused?
Not!!!
