Audioquest Firebird and Dragon Comparison and Thoughts

When someone sees my system for the first time and asks what I listen to I tell them I have one favorite song and it’s the only song I listen to. Song title: Feelings.

Feelings, nothing more than feelings,
Trying to forget my feelings of love.
Teardrops rolling down on my face,
Trying to forget my feelings of love.

Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never met you, girl; you’ll never come again.

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
Wo-o-o, feel you again in my arms.

Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
And feelings like I’ve never have you again in my heart.

Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never met you, girl; you’ll never come again.

Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
And feelings like I’ve never have you again in my life.

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
Wo-o-o, feelings again in my arms.
Feelings

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
Wo-o-o, feelings again in my arms.
Feelings…

For me it was not in any sense a high end system.

I was perhaps 10. A local audio chain developed and sold its own line of affordable speakers.

For some reason I was intrigued.

I brought my little receiver in, together with its tiny speakers. I played a recording of a string quartet. I then hooked up their cheapest speaker, perhaps six inches tall, just slightly bigger than mine.

Astoundingly it sounded like a string quartet.

For me, magic.

I remain fascinated with recorded sound, from microphone to speakers. No system sounds real but it is amazing how much of music we can capture.

My dad even with limited budget was always on the edge of technology. He had a “Hi-Fi” in college at UConn in the 50’s. Mono. He used to tell stories of sticking it out the window of his frat (now the northwest quad at UConn) and start the party raids to the woman’s dorms on the south campus.

He had CD player in 82 and that got me interested in High school. I got a pair of klipsch speakers KG4 and Yamaha integrated A702 I think. I had 6 CDs at college. Funny enough at UConn in the northwest quad where my dad lived.

Been hooked ever since

"Most listen to music

Few care about the equipment"

I concur, but are you also saying few care about SQ, and if so, why is this the case?

Also doesn’t answer: why is the audiophile universe male dominated?

Yes, very few in the general population care about sound quality. This includes musicians. As long as they can hear enough to know what is going on they are satisfied.

Audiophiles are typically male as males enjoy acquisition: audio, boats, cars, watches, guitars, etc.

And males enjoy DOMINATION!
HOT DAMN!

Females love music, males love gear and females… so music, too!

What was about this thread, cables?!?!

The wife and I watched a HT movie tonight after credits she was asleep other end of couch i cued up Bacch4mac. OMG i am in heaven. She is sleeping but her feet are dancing to the beat. Toe tapping in her sleep nearly every song.

A a n hour she woke up went to bed. But not before telling me to enjoy as long as as I wish.

Confess: you hid a few pieces of 3M absorbent sheet under the couch cushions!

I was trying to tune the movie to sound like Bacch4mac. But the router and power cables were already optimized. Maybe between her toes next time? I will have to precut that surprise. Lol.
