I am just wondering if it is only the PS Audio DirectStream DAC Mk1 Refurbished that has balance control. Does the non refurbished Mk1 DAC have this?
Yes, mine is unmodified and not refurbished and there is a balance control via the remote.
Thanks Joe….my remote doesn’t have a balance control. I saw an earlier exchange with Paul about this and a person said their remote didn’t have a balance control. Does your look like this?
No, I must have an earlier model remote. I got the DS DAC 10 years ago. The balance controls are on the left side of the bottom most buttons.
From memory (sadly my unmodified Mk1 is packed away), the balance control is also accessible through the screen, although, as you’ve probably experienced, the touch-sensitive screen is sometimes not all that sensitive. 
Thanks again Joe…my DAC is about 8 or so years old, bought it second hand. I’m wondering if it’s possible to find a second hand one like yours and why the balance control was removed on my remote.
You’re welcome. The older model remote I have could also be used for power plants but not preamps like yours can. Maybe a call to customer service to see if they still have any of the older ones available?
Hi MikeK, I can’t find the left and right balance control on the screen and it isn’t described in the Mk1 manual either. Also, the remote I have is the same as the one shown in the manual, not the one that Joe has shown in his message….
That is the remote I used with my Mk 1 and my Mk 2. I loved it because it also controls the power regulators I use.
I think on the Mk 1 only the remote can utilize the balance control. See if you can get Customer Support to sell you one, they may still have some.

My apologies. You’re of course absolutely correct. I should’ve checked first instead of relying on my glitchy memory. My recollection doesn’t include the remote in my hand!

I sent an email to PS Audio service a couple of weeks ago and received a replay about a week ago that said they would find a remote with balance control and asked for my address details. I provided that a week ago, but haven’t heard anything since…..I’m hoping that they will find one for me.
My MkI is not 8 years old and the remote has balance buttons on it.
Actually, I’m not sure I’m using the remote that came with the DAC. I have three other PSA components and the remote could be one that came with a different component. I always assumed they were all the same.
I have just heard from PS Audio Service that they are sending me a remote with the balance control…so, an early Christmas present.
