Belden ICONOCLAST Interconnects and Speaker Cabling

They appear different to me, but what’s wrong with those?

IME due to the cable stiffness over time they have a tendency to work their way out.
Maybe I’m too old school, preferring a gas tight open spade clamped down tight over banana slipped in.

They don’t use these anymore for a number of reasons. I have some older cables with this banana and the new ones are much better design although I don’t know the manufacturer.

Good to know, time to reconsider the product. BTW, thank-you.

I have 6’ OFEs, and discovered in the way I have to orient the spades at the back of my amps they put enough counter pressure on the binding posts (which are locked down good!), that over time they cause the posts to loosen. I never would have thought that possible if I hadn’t seen it happen. In my case the locking bananas would be a better option. I think the shorter lengths of the Icono cables are just too stiff for any sort of challenging routing.

These bananas are a “BJC” brand. The custom connectors and connector specific die sets for the ultrasonic welder are the best in the industry… “in my opinion!” Come see us at Axpona for the “rest of the story.”

I am not going to make it this year. I really wanted to, but sadly I can’t.

The Cardas “split pin and ball” design was not always discussed with customers since most had little or no issues with it. The little “ball” could, with a paper clip, needle or other object be slid to the front or to the rear of the connector thereby increasing or reducing the amount of tension created by the split pins. Half way it usually seemed, was “neutral.” Moving the ball forward reduced tension while moving the ball to the rear increased. Who reads instructions. I’m not even sure I ever saw instructions… Sometimes the ball “fell out.” Oh boy!

In spite of the possibilities, we found very, very few customers actually had issues. A few did but again, in most cases could be walked through the fix of making the connector easier to insert in the binding post or to keep it from falling out by adjusting the ball.

We discontinued the Cardas bananas a long time ago and have enjoyed nothing but happy customers with the current “welded, locking” banana. I personally have enjoyed using the bananas. It is a truly great connector option.

You have to stay home and get that P20 up and running!

It’s supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I won’t have much time tomorrow to do more then the @aangen blow dryer test. Saturday is going to be the big day. I have to move a P10, a 250, and a P20. After that I will go in for a hernia checkup. Hopefully the surgeon’s office will be playing some Miles.

If I make it to Axpona I’ll be sure to stop by and take a look at the new banana. The Cardas left a lot to be desired, adjustment and all. That was my experience. As Bob mentioned, the there was the potential, however slight, for the ball to pop out rendering the termination unusable. Glad to learn they have developed a new banana in house that resolves the problem.

Hopefully you have someone to assist you with
heavy lifting…

Do keep us posted …looking forward to hearing from
you on this…

Best wishes

My new Icono Series II speaker cables are equipped with with these… They are a huge improvement over the Cardas banana’s on my Series I set. Two thumbs up.

I’ve relied on banana terminations off and on over the years depending on the vagaries involved with mating cables to amps and speakers. These are the best I’ve encountered.

If you can, would you post a few pics of the bananas? Oh and if you have a Chaquita in the kitchen, a pic of that too for @RonP.

Thanks!

From the Iconoclast website. These appear to be the latest. Clearly not Cardas.
BobBJC may want to chime in.

Those are the newest used on Iconoclast cables and actually I believe they are from the BJC speaker cables line. I have used these for many years on the BJC cables. They install easily and lock into place by turning the collar. It’s the left one in this snip.
