Seems there once was a rabbit who pleaded with Brer Fox, “please don’t throw me in the brier patch.” Yes Galen, please don’t create a power cable… OK Ron, you have thrown the gauntlet.
Some days I like Vodka and others Rum, they’re all good when done right.
Be careful there some one may think you are referring to Audio Quest cables…
No! I can’t spend any more money I power cables!!!
That was Brer Rabbit. The “briar patch” may be the Iconoclast cable line-up —
once you hear any of the designs in any of the copper “flavors” —
you’re stuck !!!
@BobBJC - if Galen designs power cords, I will personally take a road trip w/ Ron to Galen’s house and break something… his motorcycle, sub, beloved speakers… something… I can’t do this again like my IC and speaker cables.
However - I did use the Nordost money for better power cables… and my wife loves the cute wooden box that comes with their mediocre cables. That is a beautiful wooden box…
I will warn Galen and explore the logistics of developing a wooden box suitable for Iconoclast…
@BobBJC - as long as these cables come w/ data and are amazing, a plastic bag is just fine!
You would have to decide if straight grained ash or burly maple had the most natural sound without being boomy on the bottom or to forward on the top end.
Yeah - Ash would do it for me… let me see, data or an ash box… got to say plastic bag with data is just magical…
Dang it. I forgot about the plastic wood. Yes, it’s the best. Doesn’t add or take away anything from the signal.
Yes, indeed!
ROGER,
Just swapped in the SPTPC in place of OFC that we’ve been listening to for a week.
Expected to keep the OFC as couldn’t imagine really better including my wife.
Well, you’re right, at least we’re in agreement. My wife, who is very critical was sitting down to listen as I finished the swap, so no time to prep. For us, the improvement to our system and sound was immediate (unbelievable for me) and she just said ‘this is the best’ and remained listening to track after track until late and I grew weary. SPTPC appears to be the ‘keeper’ but we have time remaining to evaluate so I’ll just keep it in and listen for another week before returning 2 cable sets. Thanks for your input. Dave
Will the Belden Iconoclast cables be demonstrated at the upcoming 2019 RMAF? I plan to attend and may swing by for a listen and a chat.
Just changed my sneakers. The new pair is WAY better than the old pair so their general “fit” is there. Tightening the laces just so is like choosing the copper, it is that last little tug that makes them just right. Not a new shoe, but a better shoe made ideal for my foot.
And yes, the sound will not follow the industry ideal of $$$ means better. Nope, not at all. It is the DESIGN that made it better, the copper is a small tweak and the best for you isn’t the price, but how it sounds. I’m pretty clear on what the coppers are and why we chose them to include in each design. I wanted to retain the VALUE for speaker and interconnect. The smaller amount of copper in IC let me use UP OCC, and the speaker cable stopped at OFE 30 grain copper for those that want to try “long grain” copper. This is industry certified OFE copper, not an open source material so it is CONSISTENTLY made. Note that many feel the SPTPC is best in class, any class. What’s that tell you you should be looking for in cables? The sound (mostly DESIGN), not what they are made from…but that’s about all you read about as weird as it seems.
Best,
Galen Gareis
Going to RMAF…Well, we’d need to work WITH a vendor or manufacturer to supply our wares. We haven’t really aligned ourselves with a manufacturer in the USA to prove we can better demonstrate equipment.
I did make a trip to T+E Electroacoustic in St. Mary’s, Georgia. David Schultz, the USA rep, and I bi-wired the Solitaire CWT 1000-40 anniverary edition speakers with SPTPC ICONOCLAST and use 4x4 UP OCC XLR and RCA interconnects throughout. Wow, once we got the speakers set in the display room they just ran with it. Excellent!
Corporate needs to approve any set-up no matter who you use. Bob Howard can better keep this in a line than I can.
Best,
Galen Gareis
Thanks for the insight Galen, hopefully Bob has something in the works.
I’m a little lost in following what you have. You are talking about the copper choices in the Iconoclast speaker cables, right?
I need to order a new pair of interconnects - long ones at 30’ - and as much as I’d like to stick with the same brand I’m currently using, a pair at that length is just not affordable, or sensible for that matter. I don’t have the benefit of try-at-home ETPC or OFE to compare for myself and choose. As usual I’m left with the leap of faith. I understand the concept of the product, that the main benefit is design, and secondary is the choice of copper. I’d just like to know from those who have tried both copper types in a long XLR 4x4 what they ended up choosing as their preference.
Brodric
Aren’t these long cables for the sub?
Use the BAV XLR. It is designed for what you need and uses the ICONOCLAST 4x1 EM design for excellent electrical properties using a different dielectric. It is still better than most all cables on the market by far in the price category.
The BAV product is on the ICONOCLASTCABLE.COM web site if you look.
