I just finished ripping appx. 200 CD’s that were in zippered car cases in the see thru pocket type pages. I have no Idea where the jackets or art work ended up.
Shortly after we built our house in '05, I built this credenza for disc storage. Seven units with 4 drawers each, each drawer holds about 56 standard jewel cases. It’s way overflowing now. Kind of embarrassing, actually. Serious culling is in order.
THE sweet things about 24 bit music is it came Whit PDF so i think Making PDF about cds art, information, booklet, can be great.
Those drawers are stunning.
I hate building drawers.
For my missing CD jewel-case art, I punted. No way I was going to try to hunt down a hundred different hi-res images of covers and inserts, and scale, print, cut to fit, then pull apart the cases to put them in…
So i just grabbed my trusty DYMO label maker and went at it.
It’ll do for now.
Interestingly, it’s mostly vocal jazz, classical and christmas CDs that I’ve had to re-label. Like a dozen Frank Sinatra CDs. Not sure why.
Perhaps I missed it in the thread, so I’ll ask. What about the pesky box sets? Steely Dan and Barry White are feeling the pinch of my indecision.
agreed that they can be a challenge. I made my bottom shelf taller to accommodate those.
Not prominently displayed, but it is what it is.
In my case (no pun intended), they’re in the slender open shelf recesses at the left end of the credenza. Not a lot of room, I’ll grant you, but all I’ve needed so far.
It makes my hands hurt just looking at the pile
@terzinator @Craig_Burgess I was hoping for a different answer… haha. Something along the lines of, “Just give the boxes a toss, you only need to CDs in their cases.”
This was my first woodworking project, and I will say my joinery was much improved by the time I got done with the boxes.
My son is great with wood but I never have enjoyed woodworking of any kind. I’m not sure why.
Milk crates do the trick for me. Now that I have everything recorded they are all out in the garage in cold storage.
I actually use a few milk crates for just this purpose. They are phenomenally sturdy and relatively lightweight, given their capacity.
Gotta use “real” milk crates thought…those cheap imitations designed/sold for storage, which emulate milk crates are brittle, flimsy and easily destroyed, in my experience.
Safe to say then that the XYZ drawer is a bit sturdier than the ABC drawer?
Pretty much. I mean they’re all sturdy enough, but tolerances got much tighter the more I made.
I still have a bunch of wire milk crates from the '70’s. I bought them for the $2 or $3 core charge from the local convenience store.
Whether it’s a blessing or curse of building these shelves, not sure. But with all the extra space, I’ve been on a CD-buying binge the last two weeks. (The fact that I have a Jay’s transport arriving in the next week or two might be a factor, as well.)
The guys at the record store yell “NORM!” when I come in now.
Wow!
