Have to agree about some of the nits. The light show is a distraction - way brighter than any of the other devices in the rack of that system and, of course, the blue is a different shade of blue than every other device. The mute doesn’t bother me much because I don’t use it - I leave the SPP on and unmuted all the time. But I never have the mute on when I drop a stylus in any of my systems. I like having the auditory feedback, especially when ripping records, which I do quite often. I do like the remote for changing gain. etc. from the listening position - that’s a nice feature.
Beef, as soon as you’re authorized to drop some alpha information of the Perfectwave phonostage in Darren‘s head, that’ll be interesting
So far somehow no one seems interested and also no one willing to tell anything after Paul’s mention of it…strange…so there’s still you, the mole …to explore the unofficial
That ain’t happening. Paul is an awful leaker!
Oops…so leak not intended and general disinterest = anticipatory obedience, I understand
Reading Way too far into it, man. Early days.
Yeah…no contradiction for me…I mean we’re talking about the BHK phono since when? Let’s see which announcement was earlier in terms of final product ready
For all you fuse changers, what are the specific specs of the Audio Magic Beeswax fuse that you are using? I am considering changing fuses but I’m not sure about the specifics. For example, size. Small or Large? Blow time, slow or fast? This would be for the 120v version. Thanks in advance!
I’m right with you. I’ve decided to leave the SPP on and unmuted at all times:
I’m thinking I’ll tape the main on/off button as well
For the US 120V unit, you’ll want a 1.6A 5 x 20 mm T-Lag.
Thanks James!
I just went out and bought the Stellar Phono on a whim. My steaming is working too well and I’m bored with the lack of attention it needs. I’m undecided but one of my favourite audio dealers sells Clearaudio, Rega and VPI. I’ve looked at a Clearaudio Performance DC, a Rega Planar 8 and a VPI Prime Scout. I don’t want to do a lot of fussing. Any ideas on other turntables? I’m going to keep a good MM and a reasonable MC. Any ideas on cartridges too? I don’t want to break the bank at this point. In case I don’t enjoy spinning analogue.
Good choices all. Rega RP10 here, I am so very satisfied with it. The P8 has issues with the speed controller in my experience.
All good choices. If you don’t want to do too much fussing, I would steer clear from a suspended deck (Linn, Michell Orbe, etc.) They love to go out of tune and often need adjustments. I have an Orbe SE and it sounds brilliant when all is tuned correctly. I had a reasonable MM cart but just got a van den Hul Frog Gold. Cost way too much but combined with the Stellar Phono it sounds incredible.
Dr Feickert Volare
Congratulations! Can’t wait to hear what you think once you get the table/arm/cartridge sorted out.
I’ve also still got a Frog Gold low output aside. When it fits, it’s probably the best buy cartridge per se.
I can’t speak to the Michell, but a properly set up Linn LP12, with current springs, will not “go out of tune and often need adjustments.”
That old saw USED to be true, but hasn’t since the Nirvana kit improved, and the Cirkus kit eliminated, those issues.
The problem is that many people think they can properly set up a LP12 after watching a youtube video; in short, they cannot.
It is also worth looking at a rebuilt Thorens from Vinyl Nirvana. Dave’s tables are beautifully crafted and sound great. I have a TD125 MkII and a TD160 Super and am very happy with them.
I am very proud of my TT anolog aspect of my system. VPI prime scout wall mounted and extra isolation under TT feet. MM cart is a Mofo master tracker. Stellar pp to BHK pre to BHK 250 and M700. I am so curious what mc cart would do for me but am pretty sure mucho bucks required to surpass current set up. Too rural for decent bandwidth so streaming no go. CD with DMP and DAC Jr. Pretty good but only tops the TT with electronica type music
I agree with this. My LP12 gets a thorough going over by Audio Alternative in Fort Collins every 5 or so years and between then I don’t give it much thought. The owner (Rick) of AA really knows LP12s and has been servicing them for decades. I think nowadays a properly set up LP12 is not as fragile or fickle as folklore/the internet would have one believe.
That said, if you are in the US, a new VPI is probably better value than a new LP12.
Regarding a nice MC - look at the Hanna SL, which I have and think was a nice upgrade from my Denon DL103R.
