Beta Test Impressions of the New Strata

I wouldn’t spend money trying to fix the WiFi. I had the same issues, and have an Auralic, and both it and Strata were hard-wired. My Guess is the app is having problems, so trying another app MAY be informative, just as trying hardwire ethernet MAY be informative for PS. Until you try those things in your system, it is hard to say, and doesn’t necessarily help with the beta.

The only inputs in the Strata that can process a DSD signal are the USB and I2S.
The Bridge in Strata is good and sounds great, but it would certainly have a hard time holding up next to a multiple thousand $ dedicated streamer.

It may be a problem with Qobuz, as others have found. Have you successfully streamed Qobuz 192 files on this network on another device?

Paul - except that it is not “a problem with Qobuz” if you can stream it successfully on the same setup/network to another device.

Just updated with new firmware. Qobuz still skipping. Amazon fine. WiFi off charts at 250 mb. I don’t have a way to check if Qobuz at fault. Operates properly on I Phone 11 and I pad pro though not at same bit rate.

For those of you who are confused by the instructions to use input #8 as I was, the correct input is the USB firmware port.

New issue with Audirvana. When restarting the unit, if I go straight to music via Audirvana/bridge, unit will continually fight me back to 0. This requires me using another input like Optical first, then go to 9 bridge and it works fine.

Good morning everyone,

Seems like there is a lot of dialog post update. I haven’t done it yet.

I have a question of a different sort. Pls respond only when convenient, no rush.

Has anyone had any issues/complaints of “FM noise” from their neighbors via their cable/internet provider since connecting Strata to their WiFi or Ethernet? I’ve now had a visit from Comcast for this issue. They did their checks from the street to the house and claim the noise source is in the house. The Strata is the only new electronic device yet I’ve had no problems with cable TV or internet since adding it. Just a hunch that I wanted to ask the group about.

Thanks in advance. Phil.

Did you work with Comcast and unplug the Strata to see if the noise was eliminated?

No, they are setting up an appointment. I’m not comfortable having one of their contractors anywhere in the house except the basement during these times. Plus I’m not comfortable with their troubleshooting skills in general though I’ve had a few good techs here over the years. That’s why I was asking the group ahead of all this if there was any experiences to draw on. Thanks for writing. Phil.

Regarding the streamer, input #9.
I changed my set up location a couple days ago.
I’ve been hard wired from the Strata to a wifi extender(tp link ac750).
Using Spotify on their “very high” quality setting, i think that’s 320kbit, there are no drops or connectivity issues. My wifi signal strength is also in the 50% range.

Comcast, you said Comcast! cursed wretches

They are a billion dollar company that seems to supply 70 to 90% of their product at a mid quality level, based on BS, IMHO. I have trouble with Qobuz randomly skipping tracks after playing for about 10 to 20 seconds. It happens on about 20 to 20% of their albums. So, I have to go to Tidal mp3 for uninterrupted listening. I am afraid to pay for HiRez, especially when every Comcast rep tries to sell me a faster band width. (Comcast also pixelated and dropped my Game of Thrones but not other shows, Pissah).

I recently replaced the Comcast/Xfinity Router (I had replaced once before, it was dropping the internet a couple times per day, over a 12 on one day and no drops on the very next) with a Motorola MB8600 modem and a Amplifi Alien router. It is too soon to say Cable, internet and Streaming are working better; but I think my streamed music is a little more open into my listening area, an unexpected performance! I will need 30 to 50 hours of listening to confirm. (The Amplifi Alien router is popular among gamer’s.) I am running cable to my streamer versus Wifi. I will report evaluation later.

Back to the Comcast, my overall impression is that their service has gotten worst over the long term, past 10 years or so at my house; and my house hasn’t ‘changed’. Lets, see how my new router, modem combo work, before I spend any more.

Good luck at your end,

Chas

Understood.

Let us know if unplugging the Strata makes any difference. This strikes me as unlikely.

Hi Phil,
Is the FM noise playing on your speakers or your neighbors speakers? Either way it could be one of the cables connected to the amp acting like an antenna. Assuming its a local FM radio station broadcast?

Do you have “fancy” shielded power cables? Or in that manner what are all the shielded cables you have?

Update installed. Listening to Qobuz on WiFi, a single album plays fine. When switching to another it plays a few tracks then stutters. Turn the app off and on and the album plays fine. Switch to another album results in no music with a flashing logo. Bit-rate doesn’t seem to matter. Also hope gapless playback will be solved in the next update.

Are all of the albums you’re trying to play standard CD 44.1/16?

Both standard and 24/96.

To play an album do you press the first track or do you press the play button at the top?

Play button at the top.
