Beta Test Impressions of the New Strata

@cxp
I have had those exact same three glitchy issues with Audirvana. By reset the Bridge, do you mean just power off Strata from the back? When I set up Strata initially, I did so on the unit, not on the app. Thanks!

@chuck929
Go to System, click thru till you see Reset Bridge, double click and then hit ok.

@chuck929
Are you Ethernet or WiFi?

@cxp
Thanks for the info. Just did that. I am WiFi, and had to reenter WiFi info, and am connected.

But now on my Windows PC, Audirvana no longer has Strata listed as a device, just the PC DAC, not Strata that was listed below it. And I cannot see where I can add it or have it search for Strata. Both the PC and Strata are on the same 2G band. Grrrrr.

@chuck929

I have never had to search for anything with Audirvana with either WiFi or Ethernet…

Also you don’t have to have your PC on 2.4 G, you can use 5G band.

Can you confirm on the network info on the Strata you are getting an IP address?

Next, if you are, reboot your router and then relaunch Audirvana.

@cxp
That did it! All is well. Strata and Audirvana playing nice now. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and suggestions.

This friendly and helpful forum is a big plus. Certainly a factor when I decided on the Strata purchase.

I have a few questions.

  1. which input are you using? Does it happen regardless of input?

  2. How are you changing the phase (remote or menus)?

  3. How are you changing the volume (the dial button, the remote up/down arrows, the remote +/- buttons or via the PS Connect App if he was on the Bridge)?

Thanks @jamesh

The problem has actually gotten better since I rebooted the bridge over the weekend.

I am still having the issue but it is very intermittent now.

(1) Input bridge. Have not noted with Toslink (TV) but will try later.

(2) Phase change by remote

(3) Volume change by remote

I will play around later and see if the issue comes up with the Ps Connect app. I am suspicious this has to do with Audirvana and Strata bridge. Audirvana controls Strata volume and there might be some conflicts/glitches?

Great, thanks C. I’ll get these notes over to Barry and see what he crew can find.
Controlling the volume with different apps is pretty tricky, but quirks here should get ironed out over time.

Any update on Qoboz fixes? Still skipping and glitchy through PS connect. Thanks.

Barry is looking into is as we speak. Does it not work smoothly for you on all files, or mostly the larger ones?

Higher resolution

Jim

Higher Resolution it seems. Will try to find low res files and check it out.

His res as best I can tell. Will hunt up Low Res and see how that goes.

Best,
Jim

Perfect Jim, let me know. 44.1/16 should work smoothly.

44.1/16 all good Sounds great too.

@jamesh
Just had the issue trying to stream IheartRadio using PS Connect.

Turned unit on, connected to PS Connect , hit play, hit 9 on remote, neither remote or app could prevent the fight to 0.

Turned on TV over Toslink, turned up, then transitioned to bridge and it allowed me to go up.

Very weird. I’ll see if we can reproduce this one.

@jamesh For now, I gave up steaming anything through the app. I use Audirvana remote to control Aurdivana server and that works w/o issues. The only downside to using Audirvana, it defeats the purpose of having the Strata streaming components because it processes the files and send them to the Strata for output. And we hear what a Mac has processed instead. You can tell the difference when you are lucky to hear a complete record via the PS Connect App. The sound quality is superior through the native app. I’m sure the team at PS Audio will be able to resolve these issues shortly.

@proch
Audirvana does not process the data in the Mac, it is sent out untouched from the Mac operating system via DLNA.

In my system I find the PS connect app add an edge to the music and soundstage is narrower. Overall Audirvana is more musical for me.

@proch
In addition, to my knowledge the PS Connect app is taking in FLAC files and has to do uncompression in the bridge which may raise the noise. The one thing Audirvana does do to the data is uncompress the data back to WAV format and then send straight out to Strata.
