Have you been able to do a SQ comparison of Qobuz thru Audirvana vs Qobuz over PS Connect? Or is the app still glitchy?
I hear differences and I like Audirvana but it’d be interesting to get more data points.

Unscrew the Strata’s speakers posts a little bit. You can attach subwoofer high level cables between the base of the connector and the screw. There is even a little hole to thread them through. (or use thin spades). On sub cable is in the hole or around the screw, screw back down and plug in your bananas or whatever. For my sub, the back cable goes to the grounding post. You sub may be different. Make sure to read the sub’s instructions as Strata is a balanced amp.
Totally forgot about Sprout’s bass boost
Will compare this afternoon to Sprout with and without bass boost.
@Paul - any chance of adding bass boost to the Strata in future firmware upgrade? Pretty please?
What do you mean by that? In my case - it is a pair of bookshelfs (ELAC UB5) on both sides of my computer monitor. I can rotate them to be closer or farther from parallel to each other. With more effort I can slightly change height and angle a little bit downwards, but cannot move them away or closer to each other, and I cannot move them closer or away from the wall… We all got some limitations we need to work around.
@Paul do you recommend using the right pre-amp out then, like @Elk suggested?
Also, what was the reason behind not having a dedicated sub out (like in the Sprout100)? Unfortunately, this cannot be added by FW update… but fingers crossed you’d agree to add bass boost with future FW update, just like in the Sprout100. Can be off by default, so whoever does not look for it in the menus - would never even notice it’s there…
No high level inputs on this sub, just a single RCA in.
Since you are limited in placement, experiment with the toe angle.
Based what I’ve heard and others here @Zachif the bass should be great on the Strata once we get things figured out with your setup. The differences can be quite large when dealing with Strata and Ethernet.
I have a S10EQ and use this adapter. Works fine. https://www.newark.com/mcm-custom-audio/50-20795/stereo-to-mono-signal-converter/dp/25AC5154
Bass on the Strata was much better than my two expensive tube amps, even out of the box. Hardly need the subwoofer anymore.
Have not. Once I got Audirvana up and running playing hi res and everything else I just stayed there. I’m not a tweaker, more of a set it and forget it type. And Strata is my second system, not always conducive to critical listening. But I will make it a point to do so and report back.
Yes, exactly.
There are, of course, exceptions but this is a good approach overall.
Update on bass:
TL;DR - @Paul has nailed it!!
First test - feed my Strata from my DAC through RCA inputs (instead of streaming from my NAS). Ethernet switch unplugged from power. Conclusion: bass is the same! The good news is my switch did not seem to degrade the bass.
Second test - I have connected my Sprout100 to my UB5 speakers, feeding the Sprout from same DAC. Conclusion: without bass-boost, bass is too light (for my taste). Very much like Strata’s bass. Enabling bass-boost on the Sprout made a very positive change!
So… @Paul called it. Bass-boost of the Sprout100 made the difference! While still hoping (and begging…) for the addition of bass-boost in future FW update - my immediate solution would be adding my sub to the equation.
@Paul - do you agree that the best way to hook up a sub is by using a stereo to mono converter, like the one recommended (and linked) by @csharpminor ? or do you have a better suggestion?
The stereo to mono converter looks alright. It’s an audio transformer but should work.
Will we be seeing a firmware update this week? Or Qobuz hi res fix?
After playing some more with the Strata today, I must say that FOR ME the killer feature is the bridge and streaming (either from my NAS, iHeart Radio or Amazon Music).
In fact, and that is NOT a negative to the Strata - for someone like me who already has a Sprout (and love it), I have an idea for a new product from PS Audio:
The PS Audio Sprout Bridge.
Same form factor as the Sprout, so can be stacked on top or below a Sprout, Ethernet and Wifi connectivity, PS Audio’s app controlled (same app as Strata), with digital Optical and Coax output (to the Sprout). No display, no DAC, no amp, $799 price tag.
Don’t get me wrong - Strata sounds better than the Sprout, but for many people (me included if I am being honest in my specific setup for computer speakers) - Sprout is good enough. The added bridge functionality would transform it into a killer combo!
I haven’t heard anything coming this week. After speaking with the team, the hi-res Qobuz fix is going to take some time because it’s a multifaceted problem. Embedded systems in conjunction with phone apps take a while to fix. Thanks for the patience!!
Understood.
Best,
Jim
Paul, from your reply - sounds like you believe this is a compromise. Do you recommend a better way to connect a sub with only single RCA input to the Strata?
Unless the sub has left and right inputs (which will internally sum the two channels), then no. This is about the best you can do.
I got my Strata up and running yesterday. When I bought it PS Audio could not guarantee my configuration would work, but it does seamlessly. I have my Jriver library on a server (Pink Faun 2.16) that feeds my main system directly via an I2S card. I am controlling the library using Jremote. I have DLNA streaming configured, allowing me to select any DLNA rendering device on the Wifi network to stream my library to. This can simply be selected in Jremote. I used to stream to a secondary system using an Oppo 95 as DLNA rendered. The Strata shows up as an DLNA renderer so I can seamlessly stream to my secondary system, using Jremote to control my music. I do not use the PS Audio Connect app at all. This is exactly what i wanted. Thanks PS audio for a home run product!
Interesting! My setup is a NUC running JRiver MC26 with all the music stored locally. I do use Jremote2 to control it.
For the Strata, I got a 1-Bay NAS, copied all my music library to it, and play through the PS Audio app.
@edorr - I now wonder if I could also use the Jremote2 app to control my music server, and output to the Strata via networks… Sounds like my setup is not too different from yours, so I would think that should work!
Also, my music server is physically connected to a DAC and headphone amps. If playing via Jremote2 - would I be able to output to BOTH the Strata and my DAC at the same time? (if not - how easy would it be to switch back and forth while music is playing?)
I don’t think you can output to both the strata and your DAC at the same time. You can very easily switches between outputs (zones I believed), using Jremote. You don’t need the PS audio app. I have my files stored locally on the server. I could access the backup of the files stored on the NAS to stream to the strata I guess, but I would lose all the tagging and organizing of my library I have painstakingly done in Jriver. This is why I wanted this configuration.
We like home runs!!! Thanks for the feedback.
