Beta Test Impressions of the New Strata

I just ordered mine. This was the first track Inintended to play.

Paul has been quite adamant about this on YouTube. In Paul We Trust.

Dspeaker Antimode devices aren’t very popular in Europe, don’t know about USA. There is one that goes before the amplifier or pre-amp and also has a good DAC. Really only for correcting bass up to 150 to 250hz. The other popular one goes between amp and woofer, just to correct for the woofer, All you’ll need in the Strata is a high pass filter.

Congrats, I think you’re really going to enjoy it! Not a bad first track. I highly recommend some combo and or big band jazz stuff. The separation is impressive right out of the box.

Ha well, Paul knows what he likes. I’ve heard that dang song so many times I can identify it immediately after hearing the the first drum hit and synth note. (And now it’s in my head :roll_eyes: )

So sorry about that. But Inmist day that his Paul’s Pick’s are really helpful

Best regards,

Hey. Am I remembering correctly that PS Audio has some engineers who worked with NASA? I think I saw that somewhere.

@jamesh

I am so happy I traded up GE Triton 3+ for Zu Omen Mk2 ! Strata and Zu is a match made in heaven.

GoldenEar provides a forensic analysis of what happened… Zu transports the music into the room.

@scott.wright Nice catch! Yes, our old director of engineering Dave P used to work for NASA. Dave retired from PS Audio just about 3 years ago. I’ll catch him in the lab every now and then though. He still helps us out with occasional projects. He enjoys EE so much he doesn’t really consider it work.

@cxp Ooh, I like this description. :grinning: I’ve experienced this with different speakers, and I know exactly what you’re talking about.

I had no problem installing the iOS app. Getting used to using it and the remote control. So far I am using the bridge to stream Tidal and the HT function works well.

I just took delivery. So far so good.

This really worked for me.

@jamesh

Electronic is so good with Strata and Zu.

Question: what does flashing logo mean? I cannot find anything in the manual.

@cxp Damn, this is awesome! Definitely pushes the frequency response! I’m going to try it on the big system tonight.

@scott.wright Something within the CPU got confused, and you might need to power cycle it. I’ve had one for testing purposes for about a month now and it’s only done this once. It happened when I was futzing with the settings and moving fast. Hasn’t happened since.

Slow and steady. The streaming app is the same way. Slow and steady.

I haven’t heard a Strata, and I’m sure it’s very good. I did own the S300/ SGCD combo, and later the S300 with the DSJ. I moved to a Hegel H90 integrated, selling the S300. In my honest opinion, on the amp side of the equation, the Hegel is way better than the S300 (which is similar to the Strata’s amp).

Hegel integrateds are also all in one integrated amps with DACs. The internal DAC part of the Hegel is ok, but it’s main strength is it’s A/B amp which I found clearly superior to the S300’s Class D. After one hour of auditioning the Hegel, I created an ad for the S300.

Which is to say, if you’re looking for an all in one integrated, I encourage you to audition the Hegel H120 (also $3K) along with the Strata to see what you like. Listen Up! in Denver has a 30 day home trial, free shipping both ways policy for Hegels.

It would be an interesting to see the Strata go toe to toe with a Hegel H120.

Well. This advertising using someone else’s goodwill and trade name is not right. Frankly, I would now never consider that dealer or that brand.

You’ll be pleased to know that I have no affiliation with Hegel in Norway or Listen Up! except I’m a customer. And I’m a long time poster here at ps audio. One great thing about the forums is we can discuss all brands of gear.

I recently purchased the Hegel and offered a comparison to the class D budget offering from ps audio, which I owned for 3 years.

All I shared is genuine and honest. I doubt seriously PS Audio is frightened of Hegel competition :v:

I leaned about Hegel from an official PS Audio dealer in Toronto. Watch the videos created by that dealer, Audio Excellence, for yourself.

I know. I watch those guys and they are great. But in my opinion it is one thing to mention another brand but you also mention a dealer. It just read like a troll ad to me. I apologies. Please forgive me.
