No. Only the briefest of times on the old version before Stadtherr completely redesigned it using the new AirGap interface. I am excited to hear it but bummed I haven’t yet been able to.
I have an unopened BII in my apartment. Can I exchange the item for a BIII when it is available ?
Are you using Waterfall or Agile?
Agile if you mean keeping track of our progress.
It sounds very exciting this Paul. Are there any prices for the new bridge III?
More love Denmark
I can’t wait for the bridge III for my DSD Dac. I have been using the Bridge II for a while, time is overdue for an upgrade.
Hi @Paul
Is my understanding correct that the Bridge III is planned to be an external box for DirectStream DAC owners?
i.e it won’t be a card that can be slotted in, like Bridge II can?
Cheers
Interesting to think about. It was originally going to be in two forms: external box and card. I see zero chance of a card at this point. There’s no slot in the TSS. The next DS wont have one either. Just my speculation of course.
External box for sure. I don’t recall discussion on B3 being on a DS compatible card.
I always just assumed it would be a replacement card for the BII as there was concern about how the DSJnr owners would be able to replace theirs.
My understanding was both ways and not surprised that Ted didn’t put a card slot in the TSS as he doesn’t used the Bridge II and has commented many times about the noise it puts into the DS system. Paul has even commented that there will be a trade-in for Bridge II owners. So basing your assumptions on what the TSS does may not be appropriate. If they have to put the Bridge III in a separate case with power supply and parts then you are into Lumin, Aurrender, Auralic, Innuous price territory so no reason to do it.
It was planned as a card, just as Bridge II I remember.
No, the current discussions are for Bridge III to be available as a slide in card but, as always, that’s subject to change since we haven’t yet set down to design it.
The considerations that may change all these things are power supply requirements and physical height issues. If we can squeeze it onto the board (looks like we can) and if it doesn’t tax the power supply (don’t yet know), then a card will be
offered. If not….
Hi Paul, the only solution to reproduce SACD will continue to be Memory Player? The new server will not be capable of ripping SACDs? Only CDs?
No future solution to DVDAUDIOS? Will I have to keep my OPPO?
Bridge 3 will support DSD files up to 4xDSD?
I need to plan my PS Audio modules upgrades like all your worldwide users.
If the new music server connected to the DirectStream DAC Sr. With the Bridge III will cover all grounds, I will climb the stairway to heaven!
Tsk,
Victor
It’s very unlikely the new transport will be able to play SACD’s encrypted DSD layer like the DMP does. We just do not have access to the drive units that would make it do so. And, even if we did, we would not allow ripping SACD and storing it on the server.
That’s a violation of copyright law and, as much as we don’t agree with it, we have to at least play like we do. We cannot build products that enable people to break the law. I wish we could circumvent that. We were borderline by making the SACD DSD stream
available to our external DAC with the DMP, but felt we had put in enough safeguards to protect the material from being copied.
Thank you very much. So the path to cover all grounds will be the DMP coupled to the DIrectStream with Bridge III plus the new Music Server?
This bundle will handle DOP up to 2xDSD, PCM up to 32/192, CD and SACD physical discs. Is that right?
DVD-A discs will remain out of the table?
The two I2S input on the DIrecStream will handle.
Did I miss something regarding digital solution portfolio from PS AUDIO by the end of 2019?
Can’t wait to hear the results.
Victor
Just one doubt, digital audio signal through a LAN cable is less susceptible to interference and erros than through HDMI I2S???
I was on the fence about waiting for bridge 3 vs buying bridge 2 now but since ps audio has not sat down to design bridge 3 yet I ordered bridge 2 the other day. Bridge 3 is atleast a year away if not longer
That’s what upgrades are for…
I purchased one as well, due in tomorrow. I’m happy waiting for the next release, just wanted to see the difference between the Bridge I and Bridge II and know if I go Bridge III there will be an upgrade path.
