Have you considered re-booting the LinQ and selecting the Mk II output first so it becomes the primary instead of your other DAC which was the primary and see if that keeps the output active. I had a streamer several years ago that did not like you to switch output choices on the fly. Had to turn it off and back on to clear it.
I thought that everyone knew that audiophiles wear brass foil, oxygen free single crystal, or silver foil natural fiber hats.
Making instruments sound as close to the real thing is one of the most important attributes I look for when evaluating audio gear and speakers. If the MKII is a noticeable step closer to achieving that over the MKI, Iâm afraid itâs going to be very difficult for me to resist the temptation of upgrading now vs later.
I am confused. The DS DAC Mk2 or Mk1 never reads any disc. It is a DAC not a transport.
Youâre right, PST does the reading, not DAC and Iâm the confused one.
Still waiting for my Beta MK2, has a delivery date for today but who knows! What have you guys been setting the volume control on your MK2âs for best results so far?
Any update on this? We had one other unit that was sitting atop another piece of gear that was so hot it nearly melted its top cover. That heat stopped the DSMKII. Let us know.
I played with the volume control a little bit. I first started with MK2 at 100, but then BHP had to set between 20s to 30s for most music. I lost a bit of dynamic, and it sounded a bit dry too. Then I set the preamp to 100 and lowered the volume on MK2. The sound is more analog-like and more musical. However, I am losing details and cleanness, the MK2 simply has a much lower noise floor than the BHK pre. So, the best setup for my system is probably something in between.
I ended up setting MK2 between 75 and 85, and pre would play between 40s and 50s. Of course, this was on the first day so things could change later.
Thanks, Beef. Exactly right. The best gear just lets you connect with the music.
Thanks! Love the usual suspects list. Indeed. Canât wait until you have some mileage on it.
This is something relevant only to your setup, IMO. How much do you like the sound that your preamp imparts to the system (assuming you use one)? Run the DS lower and preamp higherâŚetc.
Itâs the same remote for both.
Iâll be running MK2 into BHK Pre! I have had JR set at 80 but recently at 85 with great results.
As I understand it, this volume control shouldnât have any inherent âsweet spotâ. @tedsmith can correct me when he wakes, if Iâm missing something.
If that is the case - itâs all up to you, your system and your ears. I do find that not only different sources but different albums on the same source have very different levels, and also depending on the type of music - you may want to crank the pre, or not. Generally though, the DS2 volume should not affect the sound on its own. It is how components before and after it react to those input or output levels that will affect the sound more than the DS2 itself.
Has the tick in the sound disappeared when starting to play dsf files in MKII?
Iâll set it and forget lol. Door bell just rung! FedEx just showed up! Time for some fun!
It is entirely possible my initial thoughts on the volume control was due to the pre alone, and it may not have anything to do with DSMK2. But like I said, it was the first day.
Thanks Ted.Hope you all can get the DSD256 over USB issue fixed.
Does the same thing apply with the I2S input?
Unfortunately I canât test this out as I donât have a separate streamer that has DSD256 capability and an I2S output compatible with the MK2. For that matter, I donât have a separate streamer sans DAC. I have four network streamers/players: the MK1 with the network bridge, a Pioneer Elite N50, a Lumin D2, and a Sprout 100. The MK1 with bridge has an internal I2S connection but does not have DSD256 capability. None of the others have either and I2S output or DSD256 capability.
If anybody has a streamer sans DAC with DSD256 capability and a PS Audio compatible I2S output, would you test a DSD256 file and report on how the MK2 handles it?
Yahooo!
