DirectStream DAC with Network Bridge does not playback continuously

As a footnote it is important to distiguish between uPnP discovery problems and lost IP address. One could be caused by the other, though.

How do you distinguish between UPnP discovery problems and lost IP address?

When I start JRiver I can see my DAC. This leads me to believe the Discovery process is working and IP address is OK.

I have always been able to access the Network Bridge web page using the DHCP reserved IP address.

I use Bridge 1 as well but with JR20 Media Network from my PC to next room over the power line… I get the occasional drop out. I think the Bridge 1 may be the problem. You seem to have a robust home network. Do you use a static IP for the Bridge with LAN DHCP set to NO? I found this was the way to go.

Some here use the Auralic Aries instead of the Bridge. Where I live they are asking $2.2K for it so I will be staying put for the time being.

I have all my AV devices setup with Static IP addresses that are assigned from the Reservation Table in my DHCP server using MAC addresses.
Even when I am having playback problems I can reach the web page of the Network Bridge 1 using the known Static IP address.
Since it is a Static IP address it does not change.
Since I can reach the Network Bridge 1 web page the address is not lost.

After playing through the Network Bridge 1 for several days, yesterday afternoon the playback stopped after completing track 5 of a 32 track playlist.

I am also beginning to think this is a Network Bridge 1 problem and I wish someone from PS Audio would address my issue.

Adding this problem to the problems I am having with Album Art (see thread: “PW DS DAC does not always display Album Art”) and I must say I am becoming disappointed with what I expected to be an outstanding product.

Do not take my comments wrong. I am a big fan fan PS Audio and I really want this to work. Maybe due to past experiences I just expect more.
After all this is a consumer product and I do not think it should be so difficult to setup and enjoy.

I’m a dumb ass when it come to all these things. It took ages for me to have any success at all. I think Bridge 1 could be your problem. Like I said, I get the occasional drop out. Mostly it comes back on after a couple of seconds but sometimes I need to re-boot the DS. Yesterday it dropped out and back in about three times. Sometimes it will play for days without a drop. There is nothing I know of that can improve the situation in my case.

PSA are working on Bridge2. This may address the problem. I wonder if PSA could offer a special price for owners of Bridge 1 to upgrade to Bridge 2?

Paul has said there will be a discount for Bridge 1 owners (presumably a trade-in). Bridge 2 is better (but not perfect) than B1 with both connections and album art.

There will be a trade up program to do just that.

I have been playing with my NEW PerfectWave DirectStream DAC now for several weeks.

I have found that I need to perform a full POWER OFF using the switch on the back of the unit and then after powering on perform a UPnP Reset from the DS Network Bridge web page to have the playback close to what I expect from a network playback device.

Even with this I get the occasional drop outs playing high resolution files while the other two network streamers in my house do not have this problem. The other network streamers playback the same tracks from the same source without the outages.

I suppose we need to wait for the PS Audio Network Bridge II to correct these problems.

Since I just bought the Network Bridge around one month ago I can only hope the upgrade is is at no cost to loyal customers.

I hope to have better results to report in the very near future.

You should think about the Auralic Aries!

My router is in my listeningroom (is this the right word?). My QNAP Silentnas (MinimServer) is connected direct to the router and my Aries gets the Information via WLAN (what I normally hate for datatransfer). The Aries is connected via USB (JCAT) to the DSD.

I can hear double DSD without any dropouts. The above is the best SQ compared with other constellations I tested, including Mac Mini, JRiver etc.

Gapless, Internetradio for background music ( try Radio Swiss Jazz ), Tidal or Qobuz and a very good app!

The cover on the DSD display works.

I prefere to have a black display.facepalm-smiley-emoticon_gif

I continue testing on a regular basis hoping to get a better understanding.

Last night I played 17 tracks of a 23 track playlist before stopping.

This stop was yet another experience since the playback stopped in track 17 but the playlist was not deleted has it was before when stopping mid track.

Another day, another experience.

I am waiting with baited breath for Network Bride II hoping to finally make my system usable.
