I don’t know if there are some settings in your source that might help, but the next release fixes things for others with similar setups.
Would like to get the thoughts of those with a Sig Rendu SE
With Native DSD selected in Rendu, Roon does not recognize that player is DSD capable.
With DoP (since Ted suggested either is sonically as relevant as the other), I have full DSD options in Roon.
Some have suggested that DSP is the problem. But my room requires DSP to fix room issues… don’t really want to have them off for the long run.
For now I can leave Native DSD on, would like to see a fix for DSD 256
I am using #1 l2S, currently lifted. All other inputs, outputs, including shell, are lifted. I have not played with the other free inputs and do not have shorting plugs. Hope that makes sense. In other words, everything is switched from factory setting (no lifts) to all lifts. I am totally galvanically isolated, dude.
Sorry if I miss stated. I do not get the Needle scratch when DSP is on. When DSP is off every 5 or 6 songs it’s needle drag. Then fine for a few.
I keep DSP on permanently too for room correction.
I just received my DSII that I ordered in early January. Out of the box it is very nice and leaves me anxious to get through the break in. I always really liked my DSI but the DSII is nicer in so many ways.
I just discovered one issue, though. For about the first 3 hours of play, I used the XLR 1 input from my Aurender N20 server/streamer. I then switched to the USB input, also from the Aurender N20 to listen to a DSD256 file. It played for about 2 minutes and then suddenly the music switched to a loud buzz. I stopped play pretty quickly and switched back to the XLR 1 input. At first that input shows red but after hitting the remote XLR key several times it went to green. It played fine and has continued to since. I remember this coming up in the Betas. It this the same as the USB dropouts discussed in this forum? Fix?
I have fixed a bug that seems to match your symptoms. That fix will be in the next FPGA release. I had tried to “qualify” noisy inputs to keep them from affecting auto input select. The cure was worse than the problem. With the new release if you have an input that chatters, has frequent errors, etc. then you’ll either want to use manual input select or unplug the flakey input when using others. Note that my attempt to fix this affected all inputs whether you were using auto select or not.
You can turn off the screen by pressing the dim button on the remote.
A more permanent solution can be found in the System > Backlight manu
Jesus at Sonore has been aware of this issue since the very early days of the beta cycle. I personally reported it to him, tested a number for scenaris, and provided him logs and screenshots. He indicated that he had to update the OS to work with the new USB chipset in the MKII. Since then I haven’t heard anything from him. It’s been months.
DoP works perfectly if you want DSD256.
DoP works, but I get the loud pops. So accepting DSD128 for now
Did you only get pops with DSD256?
Seems that way yes
Is anyone not getting popped?
I hear ticks just playing DSD files from my server and they are DSD64. No ticks while streaming or playing file of other resolution than DSD. IME
Ted is already working on this issue, he knows the problem and next firmware upgrade will fix it, he said.
I hear lots of quiet ticks when changing song, but I also heard that with the Jr.
These pops are LOUD. It was said best above where it sounds like a vinyl needle sliding across the record. They startle any listener who is in the zen music mode, and may even hurt the speakers
Late Beta / Early Production Launch, Ted gathered a bunch of info about pop cases for working into the coming FPGA release that he mentions above. I get hardly any and only light popping. I can maximise the chances of light popping with a playlist made up just to encourage this that jumps from one format and resolution to an other… between DSD and PCM and levels. But I do not normally play that way…
While working on other kit in your digital chain to see if they are problem sources, and while waiting for the FPGA update, one recommendation was to turn off the auto select mode by holding (I think it is) the I2S 1 button.

Not really sure with the number of issues reported why anybody still has auto select turned on. Is it really that hard to change the input by using the remote? To me as senseless as trigger inputs.
I had an interesting demo at my dealer this week. He had a full PS Audio stack hooked up to the FR30 speakers. PST Transport, DS Dac Mk. 1 and DS Mk. 2, BHK Pre and BHK 300 Monoblocks. I have the same system except only Mk. 1 Dac and my speakers are Monitor Audio Platinum PL500 Mk. II with two PL215W subwoofers.
We played the PS Audio The Loudspeaker SACD so the recording quality is exemplary. Having not heard the FR30’ before, I was impressed by the openness and clarity they possess so were a good canvass to compare the two DAC’s.
Many of the previous observations made in this thread were apparent. The soundstage in the Mk. 2 is deeper, wider and taller. Sound is more enveloping. Background hash is far lower (the proverbial blacker background). When tracks with many instruments were playing, each of the instruments stood out in thier own space and were distinct and easier to follow.
In short, the Mk. 2 gave a more immersive experience and a more believable musical experience.
So what do I think about the FR30’s? They tick pretty much all of the hi-fi boxes.
Low distortion - tick
Tight and deep bass - tick
Well integrated drivers - tick
Lovely high frequencies - tick
Great midrange - tick
But, I would not buy them. The speakers appeal to my head but not my heart. I found that whilst I marvelled about the ability, agility and competence of the product, I did not get the “boogie” factor that I get with my own setup. Admittedly, I did not spend hours listening but to me the system felt more “hi-fi” and less musical (horrible simplifcation).
It could be that I like the sound signature of my MA’s and that the cleaner and lower distortion of the FR30’s was too much of a change to my own system (which is no slouch).
Anyway, it was a fun demo and I am pretty close to trading in my Mk. 1 as the difference with the Mk. 1 is not subtle.
FWIW and my ears only.
Sweet review! Loved hearing your experience.
Yes the MKII seems like a clear upgrade so far. The switch back to my old dac after burn in will be the real deciding factor
Could a different room play a role?
I’m surprised there are still dealers of PSA gear. I thought that all stopped when they went to their direct sales model.
