Poop! Sorry to hear that. Like Job said, it’s worth the wait!
Four to Five month waits seems to be the norm for some things that used to be near immediate. Of course our Decware friends have waited far longer, even before shortages.
Sorry for those that can’t get the mkii. Sorry for PSA too. Not good for anyone.
18 months to get electrical switchgear, used to take 2 months for standard gear and breakers. Try finding transformers. Another example, I just ordered nice storm doors for the front and back of my house, 17 weeks, manufacture is limited on the amount of aluminum stock they can buy. Used to take 4 weeks.
Yea. It’s not fun sourcing parts now. PS Audio is not alone. Even redesigning products to use better availability of parts fails to last long.
My electric meter just failed for no apparent reason. A new one was build to order and 18 months to deliver. They swiched to a different type of meter.
We use a simple #32 SS hose clamp in one of our products. Even the hose clamps are now 16 weeks out and made to order.
It’s here! Shipped 4/24, arrived 4/27. Got it installed today and beginning the break-in. Sounds pretty good right out of the box. Looking forward to improvement over time.
So for the break-in, if I have a Qobuz playlist playing from my iMac via Audirvana to the MK2 via USB 24/7 but not always having the output going to the amp and driving the speakers, will that properly exercise the MK2 and count as an effective break-in?
Thanks, Everyone. Oh, I’ll wait for it. And I still have the Mk1.I have a feeling that the Mk2 will have the same affect as the Innuos ZENith Mk3 did when I put it in my system last year. The marvels of a crazy simple system!
Hey I remember (as a spectator) the RAL cable wait/thread.
Seriously that’s grim, frustrating for the customer and for the vendor.
Ok - so I caved in to the peer pressure here and picked up my Mk2 over the weekend after some consideration of the past beta and teething issues being mostly (if not all) now being resolved.
I traded the Mk1 in so didn’t have that as a direct A/B comparison but was quite familiar obviously with the performance of Mk1.
Even straight out of the box - no A/B comparison was necessary! More so than actually expected.
The MK2 is a step ahead enough that improvements are immediately obvious.!
The way I like it!
It’s currently going to be running non stop for the next month and am looking forward to upgrading the fuse. (my SR Purple fuse was in with the MK1. (Awaiting return of that).
So looking forward to any burn in improvement that may bring.
Having the outputs connected does matter, but having the next device (preamp or amp) powered on doesn’t matter much. (The capacitance of the cables is enough to cause current to flow thru the last little bit past the transformers and (mostly) break it in.)
Thanks Ted, sounds good. The outputs are connected to my SGCD which will probably have volume muted some of the time, eg. at night. BTW, missed seeing you at Axpona. PSA seemed to have a pretty good show. Hope you can make it next year!
BTW, my 50ft USB cable does indeed work with the MK2, as it did with the MK1. I was worried at first as I did not see the PS Audio USB device showing up in the Audirvana output device list. After a while I noticed a device called Primary Play Interface, which I finally figured out was the USB connection. So, it looks like I can use the USB connection instead of the Ethernet connection as I did with the MK1 since it is not an option on the MK2.
Nice! Thanks. It’s sometimes hard to ignore the noise of teething problems and first impressions. The MK2 is the real deal. Thanks for sharing.
Our friend and industry icon, Sandy Gross (Definitive, Golden Ear, Polk) just got his DSMKII and PerfectWave SACD player and wanted me to share his comments about the pair with you.
“The short form is simply,” Holy Sh*t! However to be a little more expansive: This is one extraordinary piece of gear. Well actually two but I consider them as a singular set. Who would have thought those little silver discs contained so much musical information of such high quality. Truly analogue like and then in some ways even better. Smooth as the finest silk, dynamic as a thunderstorm , three-dimensional as virtual reality, transparent and grainless as museum glass and detailed and revealing like the space telescope. Listening to Coltrane and his band performing A Love Supreme live in Seattle was as though I had stepped into a time machine putting me live in the club with absolutely no hifi artifacts, just pure musical excitement and enjoyment. Bravo! Congratulations! All the Best, Sandy Gross.”
Yeah, I got one of those dear [insert name] letters too That Paul guy keeps saying he loves me. He promises me a new DAC to express that love but keeps pushing the committal date back. Now I’m really doubting it’s really love …I think he is only after my money. Sigh …
I love you guys!!
Yeah, sucks. Sorry. There’s a good chance it’ll be sooner but since we don’t have parts in hand we don’t want to promise that which we can’t deliver……and hopefully we can. What a nightmare.
In the DoD acquisition system we call that “DMS” or diminishing manufacturing sources, and it’s a real problem across the entire national security enterprise. The cynic in me suspects the defense industrial complex sees it as a profit strategy, but we all know that Lockheed and Boeing wouldn’t do such a thing.
Right?
I was pretty high up in one of those named organizations before I retired, and no, we wouldn’t. That’s my only statement on the matter.
I was only teasing.
I recognize the difficulties in maintaining sources for equipment that is designed using the best tech available at the time when a system enters production ten years later and continues in production for another five to ten years and needs to be maintained for another fifty. It was easier before Moore’s Law became the standard of digital technologies. It’s not easy for anyone involved.
