Thank you. Well said.
Iāve been on the government side of this business for thirty years now. We cut our own throats when we āsuggestedā consolidation as the only viable solution for contractors during the Clinton administration. We could ALL do a lot better.
Nice riff!
Off sourcing chip manufacturing was incredibly short sighted, nuff said!
Not just chip nanufacturing. Many other kinds of manufacturing too.
Technical Question about new Mark 2 DAC.
Week 2 of burning in my new MK 2! Very nice so far. I did compare with my fully modded Mark I before shipping it backā¦for two whole days, and that was enough! No question about the improvement.
I am using a standalone Streamer (Musica Pristina ACapella III) I2S into my DSD MK2 I2S #1. Sounds incredible, but I notice that the front faceplate LED is RED when using this input. The manual only states that GREEN is the color showing correct operation. When I plug in my TV Toslink optical into the Optical Input this same LED shows GREEN. Is there something not correct here with I2S source?
According to Ted like 8 weeks ago: "The green or red light on I2S is an indicator of a cable hooked up to a PS Audio compatible I2S device. Not all I2S devices hook up all signals that PS Audio expects and arguably the connection used to detect a plugged in device is the least important connection.
Thereās (or was?) a bug in the UI that doesnāt display the sample rate when the light is red, but otherwise things work fine with a red light and itās nothing to worry about."
PS: sample rate matter should be fixed as I recall
Not quite unique. I got a quote for speaker cable upgrades from Townshend and they offered me a full retail trade-in for a pair of their cables Iād bought from one of their dealers at a significant discount.
Itās a good approach for manufacturers selling direct, but it does telegraph that they must have big profit margins!
@Carousel Thanks! I missed that.
And yes, I get an accurate sample rate showing on my MK2 display running Firmware 2.5.1 and 208-Antero FPGA.
I guess Iām conditioned to seeing Red as ābadā.
Hi Paul! I currently own the ps fr30 with ps ds mk2 and new sacd transport. It took some time but trust me it goes head to head with some cost no object systems that my friends have ! Specially we did a through comparison with more expensive msb discrete and esoteric dac! On both case ds mk2 was significantly better on resolution and imaging . Really appreciate your effort on our products !
Ah, wonderful! But I suspect the Pass gear has something to do with it.
@mursalin_hossain just to confirm you liked the MKII better than the MSB, or there were just certain aspects that were better?
If you keep the MKII do you plan to get the transformer upgrade? According to a post by @jkrichards, the upgrade makes the MKII twice as good. Maybe he was was over stating, but he did say the custom nickel core transformer lets one hear what the MKII truly is capable of.
@emailists - my Inakustik Referenz USB arrived today! I was bracing myself for some constriction of sound with a new cable and figuring Iād give it 50 hours of burn in before evaluating. Bah, humbug. 5 seconds later, I was smiling!! Itās a keeper. Sorry SonicArt USB. Very good USB, but beaten by Inakustik Referenz in the first round.
Everything has a clearer focus and position in space. First piece I listened to was Eva Cassidyās Songbird. There are these floating percussive sounds that were much more 3 dimensional. Very musical. Decay lasts longer. I could go on but you get the gist.
Yes! What a beautiful system. Iāll bet it just kicks booty! Thanks for sharing.
I would like to add a MK ll to my system this fall, October or November-ish. Iām not asking anyone one to predict the future but, mindful of delays due to partās availability when do you think I should place my order?
I suggest calling PS Audio and asking them.
If you call and make arrangements with them they will not charge until the unit is shipped. Perhaps they can work with you on specific timing as to when a unit is shipped to fit with your schedule.
Lovely suggestion!
Iāve been working with a guy there. Shot him a email. Havenāt heard back yet.
Shoot again, if youāre the one that wants to move forward the most. And smile!
His reply was pretty much what I expected. Who knows was his answer. The fall timeline really isnāt based on any economic reason. My gut feeling is that it might be wise to wait a few months to let the development on this piece settle a bit before I acquire my sample. Just a feeling I have based on my readings here. More time would clarify how the next update will pan out sound quality wise as well. On the other hand life is short. Iām really conflicted about this. Itās really atypical for me as Iām usually not this indecisive.
