Don't Mess With WMM!

@gordon I am a physics/math teacher. I drew a rough sketch to visualize your dimensions and then applied the appropriate formulas. I will post those formulas shortly. I may have to write them out, scan, and then post. I do not have a scientific friendly computer at home.

My nephew had this on an exam and asked me.

My degree is in exotic and erotic sex positions so I had to draw it and measure as I had forgotten the formulas. [ or skipped that class for a quickie.]

I would love to be able to work it out in front of him.

@gordon I will get them to you. I live on the beaches of North Carolina and it is getting perilously close to cocktail time which, in my case, can be any time after sunrise. Do you know how to calculate sunrise? I use the Weather Channel app. Or, how much Tito’s Hand Crafted Vodka will it take fill my glass 3/4? Allow volume for the lime wedge.

You guys crack me up. =))

Wait till we all converge on Bolder some day.

Don’t plan on doing much work.

David brings a selection of reserve single malts. We will need sleeping bags for our week in the sound room.

Can we BBQ in there too?

@gordon Excelent. Let us now embark on a Single Malt tangent. I met some of the Forum members at last year’s Chicago show and we plowed through several SMSW including a few 18yo. Just ask Steven R. He was there along with Dr. Pain & a few other great fellows.

Might as well. This thread is already nuked so we might go “Where no sane men have gone before”.

I see a lot of “views” for it but I suspect many are apprehensive or too puratain to join in the ruckus.

@gordon In my cups. Post formulas for you tomorrow morning. It’s been fun.

Freddie Mercury’s name? Mmmmm…dunno. Country of origin? I didn’t look it up but I did cheat a leeetle bit by looking at a map. My first thought was Malaysia, but then East Timor grabbed me and a little light went off. How’d I do?

Christopher, I knew that you would jump on that math question. A single malt fest would be great, especially worshiping at the IRS alter. Chicago was fun but I haven’t had any Macallan 18 since then. Shucks. Any skiiers out there? Winter is great in Colorado…

Back in the mineshaft… I’d half the area is FILLED with water then the the water goes all the way to the top - otherwise it would not be FILLED. It didn’t ask how much, it asked how high. Details, details. Is this a physics, math or philosophy class? The real question is: how do you fill half the area??. :-B

@wglenn I can’t believe I left you off the list. We did have some fun in Chicago didn’t we. Been getting some exotic $$$ SMSW from Caskers.com. Some are 40yo.

This sounds like fun. When??? I could bring my Krell KSA-150 and we could barbeque on top of that. Oh, wait a minute... Even at 1000 Watts continuous power draw it has enough heat sink area that it only gets really warm to the touch, not more than uncomfortably so and not quite hot enough to do any cooking. Oh well...

J.P.

The mineshaft holds no water because it is on a positive grade.

This also happens with whisky.

I’ll bring the single malt scotch or maybe my favorite, Jameson.

@wingsounds13 - you do the main course on the Krell and I can do appetizers or dessert on the Mastersound. If we are camping there is nothing better than 845 roasted marshmallows with a sherry or port casked whisky.

@gordon

Good Morning. Off to build cables, but here is a place to start on our journey of discovery.

Let us proceed with our calculations in chapters. This is Chapter 1: How to calculate the volume of a cone and then a truncated cone.

Chapter 2 will be how to calculate the height of the water (any given amount) inside the truncated cone (your mine shaft). A bit more challenging.

Chapter 3 will be “Plug & Chug.”

Irish Whiskey (Part 1): Two months ago I attended an Irish Whiskey Tasting at The City Club and learned much but forgot most. BTW: So would any normal human. Let us just say that the pours were more than generous.

Jameson, apparently Paul’s choice, is Irish Catholic Whiskey. Why? The Jameson family is Catholic.

Bushmills is Protestant Irish Whiskey. Why? The Bushmill family is Protestant.

If you believe that these distinctions (above) are irrelevant, then you have never been to Ireland.

The winner of our 16 tastings (yes, 16 - now you know why I remember so little) was from Midleton. It was a hands down favorite - no contest. http://caskers.com/product/midleton-legacy-and-very-rare-irish-whiskey/

@Gordon That’s right - An Irish Whiskey tangent - Blame the Boss.

Well I think we need a special theme to launch this historic event.

Given Paul’s discussions of the importance of the “front ends” of our systems I thought I would suggest we devote our week at PSA to this topic. A-B testing should be intense.

Think texture, stage, openness, and oh… passion?

We could modify the music genre of course.
