No. but the Vanity board replaces the analog Oppo output board and turns the universal player into a digital transport. The only reason to get the 105 over the 103 is for better analog output, so sticking a Vanity board into a 105 would be pointless anyway.

Even if the the 105D could accommodate the board, selling it and buying a 103D with Vanity board would make more economic sense.

I indeed received the Vanity HD board two weeks ago and have an Oppo in hand. I’ve was sick for a number of days and have been fighting another fire but should have time soon to try things out.

Installing the board in the Oppo is 20 minutes surgery. Less for a pro like yourself.
The Vanity HD card is working great in DoP here, for both stereo and MC SACDs. There are a few clicks and pops when changing clocks (discs, etc.) so be careful until you get a feel for when they happen, but it’s great to be able to spin discs again…
Glad to hear it. I recall click and pops when switching from an PCM source to a DSD source. Is there a way to downmix 5.1 SACD sources to your 4.0 system in native DSD and play DoP? Are you playing into a stack of DS dacs?
If you don’t care about pure DSD you can use the Oppo’s downmixing options and speaker/sub setup. For pure DSD you get the DSD from the disc/take it or leave it. The Vanity HD card apparently allows you to do this processing at 176.4k which is good, but I might be wrong about that - specific questions about the Vanity card are best directed to them.
The Oppo/Vanity HD does have more clicks and pops than I’d like when changing modes. It was my experience with the Sony DVP-S9000ES that the clocks went nuts when a disk stopped or started: I’m sure the same thing is happening in the Oppo.
I might find time at some point to see if I can detect something anomalous in the DS and mute, but I suspect that I can’t tell good data from bad from the Vanity card. The DS mutes when the clocks go out of range and/or the FIFO overflows or underflows till the data starts up again. But the DS locks so fast that sometimes it’s locked and plays stuff that other DACs would miss while they are locking.
I’m enjoying my SACDs again and might see if I can get a stack of DSs for multi channel. But we have 10 years of postponed work items around the house and yard to take care of first ![]()
Yet, the Vanity card does 4.0 downmix in 176/24 PCM, which seems to be the ticket in a 4.0 system. If you have a 5.1 system and 3 DS dacs, you can play all channels in native DSD. You do channel trim on the DACs, and won’t have delay setting, so the speakers have to be roughly equidistant, but it is the purest signal path for MCH SACD.

Which is best for the DSD?
As far as I understand, the SPDIF has 75 Ohm impedance, the AES has 110 Ohm.
So 75 Ohm/SPDIF should be for the DSD, or am I wrong?
In general either S/PDIF (coax, single ended) or AES/EBU (XLR, balanced) work. I prefer balanced for lower common mode noise, but either is really fine. But I don’t know what the Vanity HD card’s AES/EBU connector is. S/PDIF definitely works. Mismatched impedance on the DS digital inputs isn’t as critical as it is for DACs that get their clock from the edges on the S/PDIF or AES/EBU signal.
