DS MK2 DAC, Blew my mind on this song because……

Thanks for adding so many good song selections to pursue.

When are you going to do the 3M absorber mod to the MK2 like myself and @dchang05? it is the most impactful of any I have done yet. You must have some leftover sheet still. The template is in whwhy all the talk of modding MK2

When the dust settles, I’ll probably venture into the 3M thing, just like with the MK1.
The sound with the M1 fuse and the Galileo power cord makes this MK2 sound so captivating that I’m still basking in it’s glow right now.

I am impatient ly waiting for my M-1 to arrive then burn in. Bur last mght I did not hear a song that was not way better than MK1 modified. . My brightness issues are resolved with the absorber even the early 80s digital recordings. The real bonus is how every recording got better. I shipped my MK1 back on Friday.

So far for me the latest firmware upgrade 179 also produce the best sound in my system. It was a little bright with the Purple fuse but it’s magical with the M1. Also I just upgraded the firmware on my Esoteric streamer to the latest 3.0 and I swear, the sound also improved. It’s similar to a PS Audio upgrade but uses a Windows computer only.

Not quite this song… but the whole of the Baz Luhrman “Elvis” movie, featuring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, via the DS2 & BHK pre was just stunning.

To me, the DS2 just draws you in; it makes the music so engaging.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a toe tapping experience like that in a movie - and with so much music across the movie, there was a lot to enjoy.

The dialogue, via toslink, came through very clearly too (tv & movie dialogue via toslink is also improved with the DS2, compared to the DS1).

Five stars Ted! :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

I hadn’t thought about this since I have a HT. Are you saying that the phantom center channel is better with the MKII when watching videos?

I don’t recall anyone mentioning this prior. Either way that’s awesome.

Hi, I hadn’t thought of it in that way before. I guess, yes! The dialogue is better now with the DS2.

In my set up, when watching TV and movies via the DS1 (before) and DS2 (now), the words appear to come from the mouths of the people on screen.

I think this illusion is added by a bit of magic from Sony, through their AV sync option.

Now I am curious if anyone else has noticed. A great phantom Center Channel is often difficult to achieve. I recently heard Mc integrated that had an amazing phantom center for TV watching.

Long ago I had my multichannel preamp modified to add 1/2 of the center to each of the left and right outputs and nuked my center channel speaker. My system has always imaged well and often people would hunt around for the center speaker, not really understanding that there wasn’t one, especially a home theater installer (who was a piano mover that day) who kept walking around trying to see how I did it. Still with the DS Mk II, I notice almost daily the uncanny precision and focus of the central sound both with surround music as well as simply watching YouTube videos on my laptop.

My McIntosh processor does a great phantom center. I noticed it is based on having the right Dolby Prologic width setting. You go too wide and it disintegrates. The Neo6 is also the same way.

I used to split out optical to DS with asplitter between Apple TV and processor. I will have to try taking the optical off the TV. My TV doesn’t pass ARC only stereo on optical SPDIF. I could then use other multi channel modes tin my Processor to emulate surround sounds for two channels sources. Multichannel mixes usually. sound better not emulated.outside their original codec.

It was the MA12000 I heard at a local dealer. That integrated is pretty much one stop shopping. I was very impressed.

MK2 provides height cues. Dancers foot-stomps on stage castanets at shoulder to above head levels in height.

Stunningly beautiful vocals and instrumentals. Huge immersive sound stage with images. Showcases what the MK2 can do.

Steely Dan Aja CD via PST….

Never really heard the multiple background singers separated on Black Cow before. Always seemed stacked before.

I played this Bee Gees CD before my vacation, and I do not remember I have ever heard their songs so clear and detailed. The soundstage is incredible too.
